Man Turns Half His Basement Into A Fish Tank

July 14, 2012

This has been a dream of mine ever since I read this article a year ago. You can probably tell that I am an aquarium enthusiast just by seeing my selection of posts. I think that everyone can be inspired from this though and that is why I am posting it. So basically what this guy did is he sectioned off around half of his basement to become an aquarium.  Seems simple right? Well think again, according to Jack Heathcote, the creator of the biggest home aquarium, this task had turned into a money sucker. Yet was obviously worth it. I mean just imagine how cool it would be to chill in your basement/aquarium! Personally I would just put a few fancy guppies in there and let them breed. If I really had money to blow I would make it a reef aquarium, imagine that! Instead Jack put huge ugly fish in there, but its cool none the less.

If you want to know how this was performed keep reading, maybe you want to do this to your basement.    The tank is so large that he must dive in himself to clean it. You think that your water changes are annoying image having to change 10,000 gallons of water every week! There were also a few complications including having to replace the flooring above because of moisture. There was even a fire because the pool heaters were not properly installed. On top of these expenses imagine his electricity bill. Feeding the fish is not cheap either. He says that he makes up for some of these expenses by selling some of the fish that he breeds. That is smart in my opinion. Overall this is a great idea, but it might be hard to resell your house. I might actually do this...
