Pooktre or Tree Shaping

July 19, 2012

Peter Cook is the artist and creator of these unique and magnificent shaped trees. The idea came to him in 1987 when he was walking along fig trees. He wanted to make a chair, after years of trying he eventually gave up. During those six years he encountered the worst drought in 100 years. He noticed that the fig trees would sprout up then distort back. This was the most important thing that he learned. The then met his wife Becky in 1995. Becky aided him through his ambitions. The drought made the plum trees sucker all over, so he decided to cut them down. While cutting them down he realized that he found the way to make the art. With only three plum trees left he created a coffee table. He then planned out his creations for the years to come! He continues to give credit to his lovely wife Becky for encouraging him to not give up.

This chair was planned in 1998 and harvested in 2008!
