Bodegas Ysios La Rioja Laguardia Álava Spain

August 26, 2012

This is not an ordinary winery, as you can see. Architect, Santiago Calatrava, included raw, natural materials into the design. Wood exterior brings a warm winery sensation. The roof is sectioned with metal blocks that create a rippled effects, spanning along the horizon. The reason for a unique design was to create an iconic image for the new wine, "la Rioja Alavesa." Wineries need to be open and spacious, and this one sure is, 8,000 square meters! Construction was complete in 2000.
