China has planned to build a hotel protruding 19 stories into an abandoned quarry. The hotel will be located in Tianmashan. The quarry spans 100 meters deep, 240 meters long, and 160 wide. The quarry has note seen good days since 2000. The hotel is planned to contain 380 rooms and even an underwater restaurant. Don't get to excited as it is planned to be complete by late 2014 or early 2015. The hotel was designed by UK-based engineering firm Atkins.
I actually some what like the idea of this. If I was the architect for it, I would make it blend into the environment more. They better have some sort of beach environment! In the images it looks sort of futuristic and cartoonish so I am anticipating the images of the completed project.
