Saudi Arabia Building the Tallest Building Kingdom Tower

August 13, 2012

Saudi Arabia has announced plans to build the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah. Currently the tallest building is  Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. The Kingdom Tower is planned to be twice the height of the Burj Khalifa! Head of Kingdom Holding Company, Prince Al Waleed Bin Talal, recently gave his approval for construction of the tower. The designer for the project is Adrian Smith.

There is much debate of the need to build such a tremendously tall building. Many argue that it is a contest between the oil rich countries. OThers say that it will help the country in the long-run. As Saudi Arabia is in a need for new houses to be built this tower will offer thousands of high end luxury homes. To keep up with the growing population Saudia Arabia needs to built 900 homes a day.

You might be wondering why all of these tall buildings in the Middle Eastern Countries are triangular and skinny. When designing a building that will be used for residents you want a skinnier building, allowing for more windowed rooms. Who wants a condo with no windows? The reason for the triangular shape would also be that there is more windows and the shape is very sturdy to with stand impact of the high winds.
