Underground Pedway System Chicago - Everything you Need to Know

Part of thriving within an urban setting is discovering crazy, mind blowing factoids about the city that you call home. Urban Splatter is only scratching the surface of what this world's urban development has to offer to you. So get off the computer and start discovering! Well actually first read this article.

You might be wondering what a pedway system is (so cliche). A pedway system is an underground series of tunnels for people to walk on. Sounds spooooky, right? If you are in Chicago any time soon you should check out these tunnels. They are free to walk through and include shops, restaurants and even public art for you artsy people (me). If you are a lazy American you can even get a segway tour, don't feel judged, I am probably going to do that soon. I have always lived near Chicago, I go there every few weeks and yet I have never came across what seems to be a secret passage underground. Or perhaps I am just living under a rock. It is located in the business district and spans 40 blocks. It is also near Millennium Park.


If you are planning on observing Chicago's fantastic architecture then you should focus on the above-ground beauty. You can actually see the original entrance to some historic buildings that are now underground, pretty mind-blowing.

  1. Getting out at Union Station was literally sucfifatong and almost gave me an anxiety attack. I also had to walk the entire length of the train and the hot fumes killed me. Awful! I can't wait for this heat wave to go away
