Did you ever think poo could be used to power your car? Well it can actually happen believe it or not. A company in the UK have made a bus that runs on sewage and poop. It currently runs from Bristol Airport to Bath in England.
One person’s annual food and sewage waste is good enough to fuel the bus for 37 miles. One tank is good enough for a 185 mile trip, which is about five people’s annual waste.
The gas is made using anaerobic bacteria, which break down the waste into methane-rich gas. C02 is removed and propane is added before the gas is used in the buses. Other impurities are also removed in order to make emissions odorless. It yields fewer overall emissions than regular diesel engines and is more sustainable.
