Surviving in the wild isn’t an easy task at all. The moment you step into the wild, you are pitted against merciless wild beasts. These beasts will not think twice before tearing you to pieces. You must have seen people trying hard to keep their body and soul together while roaming around in the wild. Making out of the wilderness isn’t going to be a cake walk, but if you manage to sneak out of the jungle alive, then  you can narrate stories of your survival against the odds to your children. Ask a veteran camper and he will tell you that he hasn’t forgotten the first time he made it out of a jungle when he got stuck.

Without a doubt, jungles are exciting, but travelling through the jungle isn’t a child’s play. The margin for error is minimal. Even the slightest of errors in judgement can prove quite fatal. Also, if you are planning to  stay in the woods overnight, then you need lights to help you make your way through in the dark.

This is the time when you need reliable and sturdy gear at your disposal to stay out of harm’s way. Also, don’t forget to wear your 511 Tactical Boots if you are planning to hit the woods. These will provide your feet with an enhanced grip and protection.

In case you do not have a flashlight at your disposal, then go for the old school technique. Take a couple of stones and rub them together ( no, it is no Robinson Crusoe stuff). This technique does go a long way in helping you out when you do not not have a flashlight.

In the absence of adequate light, you might end up falling into a trap set by hunters. Well, all of these possibilities cannot be taken out of the picture. So, it won’t be wrong to say that surviving in the wilderness is quite a challenge but it can be handled appropriately if you are well prepared. Even in the presence of adequate light, you need to keep your eyes and ears open.

Smart survival skills can determine your fate in such a situation. Here’s a list of things you need to keep in mind before hitting the wilderness: You can consider it the ultimate survival guide in case you find yourself roaming around in the wild.

Have a tent in place

First and foremost, have a tent in place. Learn the art of pitching a tent. You can seek help from the countless YouTube videos that keep floating around on social media. Have a spacious tent with you. Also, make sure it provides you with ample protection throughout the year. Buying different tents for each season can be quite an expensive affair. It is always a good idea to have an all-seasons tent.

In case you do not have a tent. Give rise to a makeshift settlement using trees and leaves. You can build a makeshift shelter beneath a gro

Light, light, and more light

It goes without saying, if you’re trying to survive in the wild, you’ll be needing a good amount of artificial light (mostly during nighttime). To avoid trouble, you can use a big flashlight. Make sure the light being used is powerful enough. Also, make sure that the flashlight you are using has a good battery life. Do not hesitate to bring along a considerable number of flashlight batteries. Lights will help you find your way in the dark. Keep a flashlight handy even if you plan to return home during nighttime.

In case you do not have a flashlight, then rub a couple of stones together to light a fire. Well, this sounds agricultural, but is quite effective. You can keep a lighter in your pocket if you want to light a fire.

Have a fire in place

This happens to be a basic necessity. A fire will help you locate your makeshift campsite in the dark. Also, look for campers who might be roaming around in the area. A fire will also help you keep wild animals at bay during the wee hours of the night. Keep a handy lighter in your pocket. It will go a long way in making your life easier during one of those cold and murky days in the woods. Lighting a fire is the first and foremost thing taught to a survival enthusiast.

To locate water sources

Yes, this part is really important. You need to locate water sources to quench your thirst once you run out of water bottles.  Fresh water sources within the wilderness will go a long way in helping you survive in the wild. No matter how strong a lad/lass you are, you need water to keep your body and soul together.

To keep mosquito repellants handy

Well, it is important for you to keep mosquito repellants at your disposal, especially during nighttime. Mosquitoes can shake the hell out of you if you take them lightly. If you wish to camp, then you need to give yourself a decent night’s sleep. Well, no matter how experienced a camper you are, you cannot survive in the wild if you haven’t rested properly. Mosquitos will make you feel irritated. So, in order to avoid all the trouble, do keep mosquito repellants ready for use.

Keep emergency contacts handy

Having a list of emergency contacts in your pocket at all times is a must. Keep a cell phone with you. In this way, you will be able to call people for help in case the situation runs out of hand. There is absolutely no harm in asking for help if and when you find yourself drowning deeper and deeper into despair. Remember, optimism will help you immensely in your bid to survive.

Be patient

The first thing you need to do is: be calm and composed. Handling a situation frantically will only add to the complexities. If you wish to survive in the wild, then your head needs to be calm.

These were a few tips that need to be kept in mind if you wish to survive in the wild. Make sure you follow all of them. These pointers will go a long way in helping you survive during testing times. With your safety taken care of, you can afford to look at the adventure through a positive frame of mind.
