Protecting your family from ground gases

All of the gasses we mentioned above are dangerous. Carbon monoxide, radon, and methane are known asphyxiants. That means that inhaling them for a longer period can result in suffocation. How do gas membranes help?

Membranes are essentially plastic sheets that don’t allow any gas to pass through them. Most of the time, they are installed as soon as the foundation process begins. However, if the ground you are building is expected to have some kind of water pressure, then you also need to install a CDS. That stands for the cavity drainage system.

All of these products undergo rigorous forms of testing. There are standards and certifications to prove their quality. That means they are very robust, and they are also durable. Membranes will be useful until the building is still useful. That means for about fifty to seventy years. However, that is true if they are installed correctly.

Every sheet needs to be completely sealed with double-sided tape, and another one layered on top of it, overlapping for at least 150 millimeters.

You should also be careful not to puncture any of the sheets. If you do, take another one and replace it. A membrane with a hole will let gas through, so it will no longer be useful.
