California's Glass Beach

A Beach Like No Others

There is a secluded beach near Fort Bragg, California that is filled with many different colors of rocks and even diamonds. Starting in 1906, the community of Fort Bragg started dumping their garbage into the Pacific Ocean. Whether it was food waste, plastic, or glass, it was all dumped right into the water. Not until 1967 did the city get banned from ocean dumping.

The glass that has sit there for decades has slowly lost its rigid edges and now looks like amazing rocks and diamonds. Although glass is not a rarity, there are amazing pieces to check out along the beach. Glass Beach is now a part of MacKerricher State Park in California.
