But if you have no idea how to do rat control, then that’s fine as well since we are going to talk about how to do rat control in general as well.

  • Sanitation, Inspection, Exclusion

When it comes to rat control, you have to make sure that all of these three conditions are met, sanitation, inspection, and exclusion. What do I mean by that? Well, if you want to get rid of rats in your home, you are going to have to inspect them first. Look for the location of the rats first in order for you to set up traps or bait.

After inspection, there’s exclusion. Exclusion gets rid of rats by covering up almost every crack in the wall or any openings. Of course, it doesn’t have to be fully covered as long as the space that you leave uncovered is not big enough to let rats in. Rats should be easier to get rid of, considering that they are bigger than mice. There are a lot of materials that you can use for exclusion, such as hardware cloth and metal flashings. Crawl Space Contractor can help you with the sanitation as well.

Then, there’s sanitation. Once you’ve closed everything off and got rid of every single rat in your home, the next best thing for you to do is to sanitize and clean everything. Rats do appear in dirty places so make sure that you clean at least once a month. Of course, this also depends on how soon your place gets dirty. But pretty much, just clean regularly and sanitize your home after you get rid of the rats.

  • Trapping and Baiting

To get rid of the rats in your house, you are going to need to learn how to trap and bait them. If the number of rats that you have in your house isn’t too big, then trapping is definitely the better choice considering that if you trap them instead of baiting them, their odor will definitely be much easier to get rid of. Meanwhile, when you use bait, it’s better for rats with a bigger population. Although, if you have any children in your house, especially babies who can crawl, it might not exactly be the safest option either. Of course, it’s up to you, which you think is the better option considering your situation.

That’s pretty much it for rat control and how to get rid of rats in your home. Of course, I didn’t say everything, so if you want to know more, here’s a site that I’m sure will help you.
