5 Unusual Places Where You Can Pick Up Bed Bugs In Your Home

April 6, 2021

When you think of bed bugs, you will expect them to live up to their name and consider your bed as the prime infestation spot. But you will be surprised to know that these pesky pests can survive and thrive all around your living space. Just clearing out your mattresses and bed does not guarantee complete elimination because there could be a whole colony elsewhere in the house. To make things worse, you least expect them to be there and seldom do anything to clear them out. It makes sense to know about the unusual spaces where you can pick them up. Let us list them for you.

Books in your bedroom

If you read at bedtime, there are good chances of your books being infested by bed bugs. You can expect them to crawl and house themselves in the books placed at your bedside. They may even make their way into your bookshelves and library as you place the books back at their place. The infestation can get bigger than you imagine and before you know.

Walls and ceilings

These tiny nocturnal creatures often go into hiding during the daytime and come out at night. They are capable of climbing up the walls and ceilings just to find a safe hiding place. You can expect them to hide in cracks and crevices and even behind the wall clock and picture frames. They are hard to spot and easily multiply in these warm and safe hiding places.

Sofas, couches, and chairs

Stop looking for bed bugs in and around your bed only because your sofas, couches, and chairs are equally vulnerable. These furniture pieces offer ideal conditions for hiding, nesting, and feeding the bugs that typically live in beds. It is best to have a bed bug exterminator look around and pick these pests. Experts have the right experience to spot these tiny enemies, no matter where they hide.

Baseboards and carpet edges

It is hard to imagine a colony of bed bugs beneath your feet, but there is nothing that stops them from hiding in the baseboards and carpet edges. They are great at finding tiny gaps and holes and making their homes in such areas. You will probably have a full-blown infestation down there without even suspecting the presence of these stubborn intruders. They can even hide in electrical plates and appliances without giving away the smallest sign.

Clothing and laundry baskets

Bed bugs love clothes, so you can see them in your closet and laundry baskets if you look closely. They will even live in empty laundry baskets, just waiting for clothes to arrive. It is easy to bring them home with your clothing if you travel frequently and stay at a hotel with a bed bug problem. You may even get them from a hospital, retail store, school, office, or public transport as they stick to the clothing and stay on.

Bed bugs are hard to deal with, and it becomes all the more challenging if they make a home in such unusual spots. It is best to let experts handle an infestation, even if seems to be concentrated in your bedroom for now.
