Engineer Toolbox

Engineer Toolbox

An engineer’s job is made much easier when they have the right tools to hand. They can spend their day coming across unexpected breakages, and they need to be on hand with the right skills and equipment to fix anything as soon as possible. Here’s what you’d find in an engineer’s toolbox to keep them working at full speed. Check out what is in a engineer toolbox.

Measuring devices (My favorite of the engineer toolbox items)

Different measuring devices like steel rulers are essential for engineering because it means that you’re bound to get a more accurate measurement first time. Tape measures and steel rulers allow the engineer to measure his materials. This is to ensure that he has the right sized product for the job.

Personal protective equipment

Every construction worker and tradesman should have the relevant safety equipment available when doing their job, whatever the situation.

An engineer is required to wear a high visibility jacket when on site, and possibly a hard hat if they are to be working around heavy machinery, objects, or from heights.  Steel toe cap boots are great. They protect from sparks, debris, and loud noises where possible. PPE may even stretch further than this after the past two years that we have had around the coronavirus pandemic.

Wrenches are very important. A socket wrench with a set of sockets will help you gain access to most jobs, so it’s important to always carry these in your toolbox.

Having a small tin of oil will help you when trying to loosen bolts that have been sealed for long periods of time or in difficult weather conditions. The oil will help loosen up the bolt and make removing it so much easier.

Abrasive Paper

Having a selection of abrasive paper can help engineers. It can help particularly those who work in mechanics. It means that they can easily smooth down fittings and fixtures or shave off a few millimeters if needed.

When replacing parts, any part with a slight protrusion can block the movement. This is why having the abrasive paper to hand means that you can carefully shave them down. This is to allow the movement to take place much easier and for the mechanics to work functionally and safely.

Different fittings and fixtures

Having an assortment of fittings in your toolbox could be the difference between completing a job upon the first visit and having to come back with more supplies. Usually when repairing mechanics, it’s a case of needing a new bolt, screw, nut, or washer to replace the old one. If you have this ready to hand, you can save time ordering them in and complete the task the first time around. Remember – time is money. However, do make sure they meet industry standards.
