Top 5 Sure Warning Signs You Need a New Roof

September 29, 2021

It wouldn't be surprising if you were putting off looking for roof issues. When a new roof can cost at least $7,000, you don't want to end up paying a lot of money. However, putting a roof replacement off can cause more issues in the long run.

Knowing you need a new roof is essential to maintaining your home's quality. Below are five signs that you need to look for to know when building a new roof is necessary.

1. Moss and Algae

Ideally, no water should ever stand on your roof. Water is supposed to drain into your gutters and your yard. If your roof doesn't retain the correct shape or your gutter system doesn't work correctly, that can't happen.

Standing water will lead to moss, algae, and mold growing on your roof. If this is the case, you'll need to repair the problem or get a new roof.

2. Damaged Shingles

Your roof shingles are there to create a seal that protects the inside of your home. This seal should be airtight and prevent air and water from flowing through any gaps on your roof.

That can't happen if your shingles are damaged. If you see any shingles that are bent, curled, or missing, you'll need to at the very least have them replaced. If you see too many damaged shingles, then installing a new roof may be necessary.

3. High Power Bills

A roof isn't only for sheltering you from the elements. It's also there to maintain the climate of your home. It does this by providing insulation that keeps air from escaping.

When your roof insulation starts failing, or enough damage exists on your roof, it will have a more challenging time keeping your home's climate stable. When this happens, you may need a new roof to fix things.

4. Water Damage

Your roof is there to prevent water from getting into your home. While there may be some gaps from shingles, those gaps should have filler that prevents water from getting in.

If you have a damaged roof, those filler elements won't exist. There will be open gaps that allow water to drip into your home when it rains. If you see water stains on your ceiling and down your walls, it may mean you need to replace your roof to fix the damage.

5. Sagging Roof

Roof companies build roofs to hold a certain amount of weight. Unfortunately, debris and standing water on your roof can cause the weight on your roof to go above that level. When this happens, you'll start seeing sagging on your roof.

When this happens, you'll need a roof replacement, whether you're going for a residential or a commercial roof replacement. A sagging roof is a major structural issue that needs to be fixed immediately.

Now You Know When You Need a New Roof

You can't afford to let a bad roof sit for too long. You never know when structural problems poor roofing will cause for the rest of your home. Make sure you keep the things above in mind to know when it's time to get a new roof.
