5 WAYS TO STAY HEALTHY ON A LONG TRIP

October 28, 2021

Just imagine you, and your besties in a car, listening to your favorite tunes, heading down the highway towards your first destination on the list of many others to follow. Isn’t that a dream come true? If only your summer-long road trip didn’t come with its health risks, all would be perfect. Resorting to fast food spots, late-night snacks, lack of sleep, and sightseeing for as long as your legs can bear, can all compromise your immune system.

To make sure that you’re ready for your long travels ahead, prevention is your best bet, along with an emergency kit to get rid of those unexpected health issues. Let’s take a look at what you need to do to keep your immunity in top shape while on the go!

Plan ahead

You’re eager to see all there is to see in a single outing? Not the most brilliant of ideas. Not only will you miss out on some of the valuable moments each of the destinations deserve, but you’ll also put your health at great risk.

Instead, set up a sightseeing schedule you can actually maintain without skipping every single meal of the day, all the while forgetting to drink water or take a bathroom break. Before you even hit the road, it’s best to research and organize an itinerary that is realistic, and that accounts for snack breaks and outlines healthy food nooks.

Stay active

Sightseeing is not the same as staying active! For starters, morning stretches and a brief HIIT routine at least three times a week are essential to keep your body in good shape. Long hours on the road and driving can deplete your energy, while a short break with a few minutes of jump rope and stretching will help you feel much better and reclaim your focus. But don’t overdo it. If you work in an online essay writing service and have a very calm lifestyle, the exercise can hurt.

Staying in a hotel that has a fitness center, or making a deal with your besties to hit the pavement early in the morning for a jog are also valid options that will safeguard your health and help you stay on track

Never skip your Zzzs

Another downside of all that excitement is the possibility to shorten your sleep and spend more time and about. As tempting as that may be, you will deprive your body of the much-needed time to replenish its energy levels, recover from all the traveling efforts and be active all day.

If you’re traveling to a different time zone, you’ll also have to find a way to deal with jetlag and the climate changes which can be very demanding on your biological clock. Prepare yourself and make sure to get plenty of shut-eye in the weeks prior to your travels, and continue your rhythm while exploring the world.

Rise, shine, and munch!

Even if something goes awry during the day, having a rich, nutrient-dense breakfast will give you plenty of energy to cope with possible changes in your plan. It doesn’t have to take forever to make an omelet with a veggie-versatile salad, but you can also opt for an instant oatmeal option, visit a local restaurant, or make your own healthy sandwich.

While you’re looking for the right ingredients, buy yourself snickers protein bars and fresh fruit to take with you on your daily adventures. No traffic jam or museum line will catch you unprepared!

Support your diet

In all fairness, no matter how hard you try to maintain your diet habits while abroad, it’s very difficult to supply yourself with enough essential micronutrients to compensate for the strain you’re going through. And it’s not that practical to spend half of your time traveling, and the other half shopping for groceries. It’s one thing to get a glimpse of the local life, and completely another to waste your time. Take a look at this article from Proper Good for more tips.

However, you can bridge those diet gaps with the help of Solgar vitamins that will give your immune system a boost when you cannot rely on your daily menu. If you travel to a place in the middle of flu season or you simply risk catching a cold, these additions to your diet will do wonders for your well-being.
