Why You Should Inspect Your Pool Regularly

October 25, 2021

Summer months are fast approaching. It’s time to bring out the barbie and relax by the poolside.

But is your pool up to the standards and regulations of the Australian Government? More importantly, have you attended to all the safety concerns that are relevant to your private pool?

Taking Care of the Legal Needs

Any pool or spa owner must register it to the Government. The owners also have to maintain the standard of these areas, or they will face the consequences. If you live in NSW, you need to be extra careful. Your state government has the Swimming Pools Act 1992, the Home Builders Act 1989, and general Australian Standard.

These laws and standards consider any structure with 300mm water to be a pool or spa. If your pools are not up to the bar, you will get a non-compliance certificate, forcing you to fix the issues of your pool or pay the penalty. Even when you have obtained a pool safety certificate, keep in mind that it’s only valid for one year for a shared pool and two years for a non-shared private pool.

But, even if we set the legal complications aside, regular inspection of your pool ensures that you can have a relaxing time on your pool during the right season.

Here are some other reasons why your regular pool inspection is a good idea.

1. In Case of Emergency

If you have followed the legal necessities, your pool area has vital signs to guide people in an emergency. The most common method for putting up the sign is DRSABCD, an acronym for the following terms.

  • Danger
  • Response
  • Send for Help
  • Airway
  • Breathing
  • CPR
  • Defibrillator

This method, along with necessary contacts, is critical to streamlining the action of everyone during an emergency. With regular inspection, you can determine if your pool is still effective against emergencies.

2. Reduce Chances of Injury

With regular inspection, you will know when and where to put up safety signs. These signs are not necessary per se, but they can work as gentle reminders for everyone. It makes them more careful, which, in turn, decreases the chances of any injuries around your pool.

3. Keep It Safe for Users

Regular inspection leads to a cleaner pool. You keep an eye out for any plumbing, electrical, or drainage hazards. An inspection lets you know if your pool’s filtration system is working correctly. Good filtration will keep your pool clean and healthy.

4. You Ensure Good Maintenance

Regular pool inspections will tell you when and how you need to improve your pool. Pool that is properly cared for year after year will reduce your cost of maintenance to a large extent. Remember, not properly maintaining your pool will only cost you dearly in the future.

Final Thoughts

You can always hire licensed experts in pool safety inspections, who will do everything from keeping you out of legal trouble and advising you on how to maintain your pool around the year.
