5 tips for buying office furniture

December 20, 2021

If you have started your own company, you must be very excited right now, right? Investing into a new office space is a one-of-a-kind experience. Choosing the right furniture, setting up the office - all of this is a huge responsibility. ṣ

When it comes to office furniture, there are things you need to be careful about while choosing. While most of us think office furniture is dull or monochromatic, it doesn’t always have to be that way!

Here are five simple tips you should keep in mind while buying furniture for your brand new office.

1. Always keep space constraints in mind

The size of your office space determines how large or small the furniture should be. If you have very few working employees, you can go for large coworking tables. The number of people working in the office should also be taken into consideration.

In case your business is booming and you have a large number of employees in a relatively small space, large tables will look very congested. In this case, you should choose more small working tables.

Ensure that the furniture you buy leaves as much space as possible so that the office doesn’t look or feel cramped. There should also be enough space to open and close drawers and cabinet doors.

2. Suitable for your needs

The kind of business your company does should determine the type of furniture you’re going for. For example, if you have a coffee selling company, the color of the furniture can be in different shades of brown, along with black and white.

Make sure the furniture doesn’t look odd with the ambiance of the workplace. A neon-colored table might look good in a hip jazz bar, but will it really go with the atmosphere of your office? Not really.

Also, don’t forget to buy items like cabinets, bookshelves, and computer stands. They will improve the functionality of the place.

3. Comfort quotient

When you go out to buy furniture, you should remember to meet your employees’ needs. The office consists of each and every member working there, not just you. So you have to give due respect to your employees’ choices.

Their comfort and happiness should come before anything. Make sure you choose chairs that have comfortable seats and hand rests, especially if your co-workers work for long hours.

If you cramp everyone up in small cubicles, it will promote an unhealthy work environment and make everyone crabby. This can negatively impact productivity and performance.

4. Budget is important

Budget is an extremely important factor to consider. Talk with the finance or money-handling team of your company before making a hasty decision or you could end up in a soup.

Or you can even make a small budget of your own before consulting. Ask yourself questions like, “How much do I need to spend on the desks and chairs?”.

While purchasing, lookup and compare online stores to have a clearer idea. Settle on a figure that provides the best quality, quantity, and deals. Once you fixate on that budget, plan accordingly and choose the furniture items according to the budget you have set.

5. Chairs

Probably the most important pieces of furniture in an office are the chairs. They form the backbone of the office since everyone is expected to sit and work there for hours. The kind of chairs you select will depend on the setting of your office.

But one thing should always be kept in mind- the comfort provided by the chairs. If there are employees with back problems, extra care should be taken to make their chairs as comfortable as possible.

They should be large enough, with proper rests for hands and heads. Rotating ones are also a good option if you want everyone to stretch their legs and relax a little.
