Create an Editable PDF Business Card Design Template

One of the most typical requests from design clients is intended for an editable business card template. However, it might be challenging because many of them lack the capacity or software to make design changes.

For the editing of the pdf documents, such split pdf, a pdf splitter is an excellent choice, on the other hand, a pdf combiner is used to combine pdf.

Majority clients only want to change the contact information and the name on their business cards, not the design itself. Create the design in Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, save it as a PDF, and then add editable text fields to the PDF form in Adobe Acrobat. This enables the client to make changes to the text in Adobe Reader.

Here's a short 7-step guide to creating an editable PDF.

Design the layout with Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator.

I'm using the typical US business card size of 3.5 x 2 inches to give you an example for the measurements, and I've included 1/8 inch bleeds to the page.

For this case, I used Adobe Illustrator to make a business card template. When building a design, try to choose a font that your customer currently owns or is willing to acquire so that they may change the text.

Also, make sure to conceal any text layers, while turning your design to a template. Later, you'll add those as editable text fields in Adobe Acrobat.

Create a PDF file of your design.

To do so, go to File > Save as > PDF > Save.

In Adobe Acrobat Pro, open the file and add text fields.

Open Adobe Acrobat to see your PDF file. To add text fields for the name and contact information to the business card template, go to: (1) Tools > Text Fields. (2) Types > (3) Produce > (4) Adapted from an Existing Document > (5) The Present Document (6) Keep going.

In this example, I'll add 7 different text fields to the business card design.

Click Tasks > Add New Field > Text Field to continue. To make text boxes of the appropriate size, click and drag the text box pointer. To allow the CH readily insert the essential information, I've opted to construct one text field for each line of text rather than one large one for all of them.

Modify the Text Field Properties

To change the typefaces and the size of your text fields, double-click on each one and update the text in the Text Field Properties box that appears.

I've set the text size to 16, and the font to Helvetica Bold in the "Name" text field. I've set the font size to 9 for all of the other text boxes. I've clicked the "Locked" option for each text field to prevent any modifications to the text field from being done accidently.

Moreover, you can use any of the pdf cutter, pdf separator, and pdf splitter for pdf split.

Make a copy of it and save it as an editable template.

The business card template will then be saved as a PDF file so that your customer may update the text in Adobe Reader. Select File > Save as Other... > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (Includes form filling and saving)... Save as a PDF file.

To compile the pdf documents, a pdf compiler is used.

Put your template to the test and deliver it to your customer.

Then, to test your text fields, open your PDF form in Adobe Reader by changing the contact information. Majority clients will already have the software, but if they don't, they may get it for free.

Simply save and submit this PDF template to the printer once you or your customer modifies the contact information. You may edit the text in this PDF document at any time.

Print preparation

Some print shops prefer that designers send business card files in the form of a sheet.

For the business card design, most printers will take a simple two-page PDF file. However, they will often align the business card designs in a grid, print it double-sided, and then cut the sheet into separate business cards, in order to print it.

Although, a few of the printing businesses charge a set-up fee for this service, so if you want to be extra comprehensive, build up your template as a two-page PDF sheet with text fields. Simply ensure that the front and back pages are aligned and that a trim space is included.

It is recommended to use a pdf splitter to split the pdf files into multiple documents, and pdf combiner to combine pdf documents.
