Edsel Ford House: Historic Landmark Estate

Edsel Ford is an American business executive and philanthropist. He was born in 1893 to pioneering industrialist Henry Ford and his wife, Clara. He became the president of Ford Motor Company in 1919. Additionally, he married Eleanor Lowthian Clay in 1916. Together the couple had four children. Edsel died of stomach cancer in 1943. His father briefly reassumed the presidency of Ford Motors. Edsel’s son, Henry Ford II, became president of the company in 1945. Additionally, Eleanor Ford stayed in their home until her own death in 1976. It was her wish that the property be used for the benefit of the public. Furthermore, the Ford Estate has been open to the public since 1978. Check out the Edsel Ford house below.

The house has over sixty rooms with over 20,000 square feet of space. The beautiful mansion was constructed in 1926. Sitting lakeside on 87 acres, this mansion has incredible features as well as antiques and furnishings dating back to the late 16th century. The ceilings in many rooms are adorned with plaster fleur de lis, as well as french wrought crystal chandeliers. Furthermore, this estate includes an art gallery,  drawing-room, library, dining room, game room, and study. Additionally, the grounds hold a lagoon, pool, and flower garden. Furthermore, the mansion became a national historic landmark in 2016. This estate is located in Grosse Pointe Shores, MI. It is a part of Macomb and Wayne County. Furthermore, it has a population of 3,008.
