Margaret Mitchell House: Historic Atlanta Museum

Margaret Mitchell was an American novelist and journalist. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 8th, 1900. Her father was an attorney and her mother was a suffragist. Additionally, Margaret attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She married John Marsh in 1925. This was her second marriage. Her first marriage ended in divorce in 1924. Margaret worked at The Atlanta Journal Sunday Magazine. Furthermore, in 1928 while recovering from a broken ankle, she started writing her novel, Gone With the Wind. The novel earned her a Pulitzer Prize. Additionally, her novel was turned into a movie in 1939. The movie famously starred Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh. Furthermore, in 1949 Margaret was hit by a car while crossing the street. She died days later from her injuries. John died of a heart attack three years later. The couple had no children. Where did Margaret Mitchell live?

The house was turned into a ten-unit apartment building in 1919 called The Crescent Apartments. The building's original address was 806 Peachtree Street. It was originally built in 1899 as a single-family home. Additionally, Margaret Mitchell and John Marsh lived in unit A on the ground floor from 1925-1932. In 1996 the building suffered a fire. There was damage everywhere except the unit that Margaret lived in. Additionally, the house was once again restored. Furthermore, the home is a traditional Tudor-style home. It is made up of brick. It has a beautiful white fence surrounding the front. Inside the home, there is a traditional working stove fireplace. The home is now a museum, open to the public. Furthermore, ticket prices start at $13.00. Additionally, this home is located in Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta is the 38th most populous city in the United States. Furthermore, there is a population of 498,715.
