7 Ways to Make a House Safer for a Child

February 18, 2022

It's every parent's worst nightmare: their child gets injured or, worse, hurt in their own home. Thankfully, there are many things you can do to make your house safer for a child. In this blog post, we will discuss seven ways that you can child-proof your home and help keep your little ones safe and sound. Implementing these tips may seem like a lot of work, but it's definitely worth it in the end!

1. Install a smart-house safety system

Install a smart house safety system with sensors that alert you when an alarm goes off. This may seem like something only rich people would do, but these systems are actually affordable and easy to install yourself! Just make sure all windows are securely locked and covered with window guards so no one can get into your home while you're away from work.

You just have to download an app on your phone, connect safety systems, and it will alert you if there is any danger in the house. There are plenty of these, that provide various services for families, from parental security to cheating wife text message tracking. For example, you could set up motion sensors around windows or doors to notify when someone breaks in, while also having smoke detectors that go off whenever they detect fire (these are usually connected through Wi-Fi).

This allows parents peace of mind knowing their children aren't being exposed to dangerous situations at home without them present. If anything were ever to happen inside even though no one was watching, it would immediately alert whoever downloaded this app about what type of emergency occurred as well!

2. Install a safety gate at the top and bottom of the stairs

The best way for parents to keep their kids safe is by installing safety gates at the top and bottom of the stairs. Keeps children from falling down or getting hurt while playing in these areas.

Mounted doors can also prevent toddlers from accessing rooms off-limits because they aren't tall enough yet, so it's very important that you get one now!

3. Place child-proof locks on cabinets and drawers

Make sure that all your medicine is securely locked away from little hands. Keep anything dangerous like knives or scissors out where they can't reach it by putting them in a place high up with safety locks on every door!

It`s not that hard. Decide what you want to lock(like medicine cabinets, drawers in the kitchen that children can reach), and purchase child-proof locks at your nearest store. They come in different shapes and sizes, so find the ones that fit your needs!

4. Buy a fire extinguisher and make sure everyone in the house knows how to use it

One of the most important things you can do to make your house safer for a child is to buy a fire extinguisher and make sure everyone in the house knows how to use it. Fires are one of the leading causes of child deaths, so being prepared is key!

It's a good idea to teach children to use fire safety products, such as fire extinguishers, in the home. Kids need to learn about the dangers of fire and how to stay safe when they're around them. The more you teach them, the more likely they will be to use these products in the event of a fire. The older they get, the more important it is to reinforce these lessons.

5. Keep cords for lamps, TVs, and other electronics tucked away

The best way to keep cords out of the reach of young children is to avoid placing them near dangling cables. Instead, you can use safety covers to block off the outlets. You can also tuck away cords behind furniture and devices to prevent them from being pulled. If you can't remove your appliances, you can always bunch up their cord sections to prevent them from being reached by a child.

If you cannot keep all cords hidden, you can use electrical tape to cover unused plug holes. This method is especially helpful for preventing small children from accidentally pulling out plugs. The tape also helps cover unused holes on cords.

6. Get rid of any furniture or decor that could be a hazard

This may seem like a small thing, but it's actually very easy to do and can prevent some serious injuries. Remove any furniture or decor that could be a hazard (e.g., sharp edges, breakable items).

It might be tempting to have that cool glass table or beautiful vase on display, but if there's a chance your child could knock it over and get injured, it's best to store them away until they're older.

7. Make sure all windows are securely locked and covered with window guards

This is especially important if you have a child who likes to climb or play near windows, as they could accidentally fall out and get seriously injured.

You can buy such window locks in any hardware store or online, and they’re usually not expensive.

Making your home safe for a child can seem like a daunting task, but by following these simple tips, you can rest assured that your little one is safe and sound.
