Moving homes or to a new city is such an exciting adventure and with such a range of Manchester apartments, flats and houses, there is an area and style for everyone. However, there is also a lot to consider when looking to rent. This includes deciding on budget, the location and distance from amenities.

Are you looking to rent in Manchester?

Renting process

When thinking about renting, it's important to first consider the process itself. This can often be a quick process however, not always, so it's good to know how it works before diving straight in. To begin with, working out budgets is a must to avoid wasting time searching for properties that may be too expensive. When the budget is decided on, it is easier to narrow down search options, houses can be found online or via an estate agent. Once this is done, viewing may be advised to truly get a feel of the place. Then it is time to sign the contract.

There are several things to consider when looking to rent a property in the city. These include, but are not limited to…

Budget

First and foremost is the budget, this will guide the location and size of where someone can afford to rent. When first setting up a new tenancy, there may be a few initial outgoings, these will include:

  • Deposit
  • Security deposit
  • First months rent
  • Furniture

Once paid for, monthly rent payments will continue, these are agreed on with the landlord and are taken out at the same time each month. As well as the rent, it's also important to consider a budget for other costs, such as food shopping, to ensure that the specific property is feasible. In addition, some landlords offer a set cost with bills included, however not all do this. So as well as rent, utility bills such as gas and electricity will also need to be paid for. The closer a person is living to Manchester City Centre, the more expensive it usually is, with further out being more affordable.

Location

Location is an important factor to consider when looking to rent in Manchester. Within the city centre, there are several districts, all with different amenities and attractions nearby. Some of the most popular areas include:

Northern Quarter

The Northern Quarter is a very popular area, especially for students and young professionals who want to be around the quick pace of city life with everything on their doorstep. Offering charm and individuality, there is something for everyone, hence it attracts such a range of residents.

Castlefield

Castlefield is a more peaceful part of Manchester, it's slightly less crowded and provides more outdoor space. The rich history and flowing waterways are often what bring people to this part of town, with easy access back into the city centre over a pedestrian bridge.

Spinningfields

Spinningfields is home to some of the most luxurious restaurants and many global businesses. The area is particularly popular for young professionals and graduates starting out in their careers. One of the city's most vibrant destinations, it is a thriving place to live, work and play.

Ancoats

Over the last few years Ancoats has become a very desirable place to live in Manchester. With cobbled streets and old mills being converted into stunning apartments, there is so much character in this contemporary part of the city.

Amenities

Another important thing to consider when renting is how close the accommodation is to different amenities and the transportation links nearby. For a student, it may be crucial for them to live near their university building or a bus stop to get to and from bars and clubs safely and affordably. As a young professional, being close to a workplace or gym may be vital. These are all things to take into account when looking for a place to live.

Manchester is a great city to rent in, staying open minded is key to finding the perfect home.
