How to Move Glass Table Top Safely Without Breaking It

April 5, 2022

Moving to a new house or changing your setting seems scary, especially when it comes to moving the heaviest and most difficult piece of furniture, which is the glass table top. This delicate yet heavy piece of your furniture is guaranteed to scratch or shatter if not handled properly while moving. But this problem will not remain forever as we have put together a guide to help you in moving your precious item safely and securely anywhere you like.

Here is our 4 step guide to safely moving your glass table top anywhere.

Unscrew the base

Whether your base is made out of metal or wood, dismantle or unscrew your glass table tops’ base. Use a screwdriver and remove all the screws and bumpers out. Gently remove the legs of the table. Lay your glass table top aside on a soft blanket. Pack all the screws and bumpers in a plastic bag and legs/base of your table top. Pack each thing separately so that when you assemble, you won’t have to get mad while searching for one another.

Wrap it in a Blanket

As you remove your base, lay down a thick blanket on the floor. Gently put your glass table top on this blanket. Wrap the blanket all over your glass table top so that no corner is exposed. This gentle landing over the blanket will secure the glass from any shock, which can lead to any crack or explosion.

Pack in Box

Now wrap the bubble wrap over the blanket. This is for extra safety measures. Now you can easily put your double protected glass table top in a cardboard box, making this package easy to carry. Don’t forget to secure this box with masking tape so that nothing slips from this box because of a little bumpy ride.

Pack it up

Get yourself a helping hand to pick your package. One person should lift the box from one end, and the other person should lift it from the other end. Be very careful while moving from the doorways to avoid hitting against any item. Do not pull the table against the floor as it can both damage the floor and the table inside the box.

Transport it safely

Load the table on the truck with care. Lying the glass table top flat on the truck is not a good option as it can result in cracks through bumps and vibrations. Also, if it is lying flat, there is a possibility that other boxes can fall on its surface, causing a significant crack.

Make sure to place the glass table top box along its longest side against the truck’s wall. Secure this box well with straps or ropes. Put some heavy pieces against the box so that it remains still during the drive.

Lastly, glass table tops are beautiful pieces to look at, but at the same time more fragile than any other furniture of yours. So, take generous time while moving. However in any unfortunate event if the glass table top gets broken then you can order a new one from Glass Mirror House Ltd. It is a London based company where you can get a customized glass table top online. No matter what your table top size or shape is, you will be able to place an order for that online in a few easy steps.
