John Ward was an early colonist in America. Around 1660 he fled England with his family. Additionally, he worked as a currier. He worked mostly in leather furnishings. He fled England with his family due to the plague becoming prevalent throughout Europe at that time. In 1684 he built his family home, now known as the John Ward House. Additionally, after his death in 1732, the home was passed down to his son, Benjamin. Furthermore, over the years, the house has been turned into various uses. It has been an apartment building, a bakery, various storefronts, as well as a gallery. Currently, it runs as a museum that is open daily for tours.
