Who was John Ward?

John Ward was an early colonist in America. Around 1660 he fled England with his family. Additionally, he worked as a currier. He worked mostly in leather furnishings. He fled England with his family due to the plague becoming prevalent throughout Europe at that time. In 1684 he built his family home, now known as the John Ward House. Additionally, after his death in 1732, the home was passed down to his son, Benjamin. Furthermore, over the years, the house has been turned into various uses. It has been an apartment building, a bakery, various storefronts, as well as a gallery. Currently, it runs as a museum that is open daily for tours. The John Ward house is remarkable as one of the first 17th-century wood-framed, clapboard houses. Check out the John Ward house below.

The John Ward House is located in Salem, MA. Salem is rich in history. Most notably the 1692 Salem Witch trials. Furthermore, it is a coastal city that is located in Essex County. 

The house has two bedrooms and an unknown amount of bathrooms. This historic house is 2 ½ stories tall. It was built in three phases. The first being in 1864. It has seen many restorations. Additionally, in 1911 the house was opened in sections to the public for touring. It became the first outdoor museum of architecture at that point. Furthermore, there is a large chimney in the center of the home. The first floor consists of rooms such as a parlor room, made of pine. Furthermore, the second floor features rooms that are made of oak. Additionally, diamond-shaped glass panes appear in each of the windows. Throughout the years the address has changed several times. It first appeared on Prison Lane. It has also been located on St. Peter St and Brown St.
