Sylvia Likens was an American teenager. At 16 years old Gertrude Baniszewski murdered her. Additionally, Gertrude’s children were also involved in the murder. In 1965 Sylvia and her sister Jenny moved in with Gertrude at her parent’s request. They could not afford to care for the two young girls anymore. Their parent's worked in carnivals. Furthermore, during their stay, Sylvia was beaten and tortured. Furthermore, on October 26th, 1965 Sylvia died. Gertrude, along with two of her children, John and Paula, were arrested.
