Choosing the Right Furniture for Your Restaurant

June 7, 2022

At some point, most people have gone into a restaurant only to be greeted with torn material on booths or cracks in the tables, though this is clearly not the best way to make a good impression on the customer. The furniture in a place of business should be chosen with several things in mind. Items should serve their function well, and they should also reflect the vision that the owner has for their restaurant. For instance, a fast-food establishment will usually have a different interior than a five-star restaurant.

Restaurant Seating

Business owners should select their seating carefully. Are you choosing seats for the bar, tables, or booths? Do you have a theme or signature colors for the restaurant?

Consider the material that is used for seating. Some materials, like vinyl or wood, are easier to clean, which can make a big difference when the restaurant is busy and tables need to be turned quickly. The durability of the materials is also important, as replacing furniture often is expensive.

Next, think about which types of seating you want. Bar stools, standard restaurant chairs, and booths are the most common options. Seating also comes in many different sizes and shapes, so it's optimum to look at your space and calculate how many seats of each type you would like to have. Booths tend to take up the smallest amount of room because they can hold varying amounts of people, so consider restaurant booths for customers. Additionally, if you want to be able to efficiently store things like chairs, check to see how easily they can be stacked and put away.

Restaurant Tables

Decide on a shape and design that is based on the character and themes of your business. It's also important to consider the fact that square and rectangle tables can be combined easily to accommodate larger parties. This isn't a feasible option when you choose round tables. Be sure to consider the size of your restaurant. Large tables may not be practical in a smaller facility. A larger facility can handle many different sizes and varieties of tables as well as more varied types of seating.

Is your restaurant more casual or luxury dining? Take this into consideration when choosing a material for your table surfaces. Plastic may work well for a casual family pizza joint while wood, marble, or stone surfaces make more sense when furnishing a luxury steak restaurant.

Additional Furniture

Restaurants need more than just tables and chairs. It's important to consider everything else that you and your patrons will need. A few essentials might be a hostess stand, high chairs, booster seats, a coat rack, extra seating for waiting customers, bar counters, and storage. Be sure to include all of these extras in your budget.

Owners should be sure to go into furniture shopping with a specific plan. Know how you want your facility to be set up, how many patrons you want to be able to seat, and how much money you want to invest in furnishing your business. This way, your restaurant will be set up for success from the very beginning.
