Common Plumbing Problems in the Summer

July 25, 2022

With the warmer weather comes group get-togethers, trips to the beach and evenings in the garden. The last thing you want to be thinking about is potential problems with your plumbing.

But this time of the year brings some negatives. Certain appliances in your home may get used more than they’re used to, causing problems.

During these months, you should keep a close eye on your plumbing to make sure any small problems are picked up on before it’s too late.

This blog will look into the most common plumbing problems that can happen during the hotter months. When you notice something is wrong, make sure to search for local plumbers. This will help you find local plumbers who can come to your aid quickly and get your house up and running again in no time.

The following issues are the most likely to occur in the summertime, so keep an extra lookout to prevent any damage taking place.

Sprinkler Issues

Watering your garden, grass and plants is a necessity in the warmer months. But this can cause your sprinkler to show signs of wear and tear after an influx of usage. Always make sure to check the head for damage and if you notice any leaks, aim to get this sorted before the summer. Leaks will cause a waste of water and you’ll notice it in your water bill.

For any sprinkler problems, you can find replacement parts in most hardware stores.

Blocked Toilets

With more people visiting over the summer, your toilet is more prone to blockages. But there are ways to prevent this from happening. Provide bins for guests to use to avoid things like baby wipes and sanitary products being flushed.

You should also keep a plunger available in case a small blockage takes place. However, if your toilet gets blocked and you can’t unblock it, get in touch with a local plumber as soon as possible to deal with the problem.

Washing Machine Strain

With lots of events, holidays and days out, your washing machine might get used more often during the summer months. It is also prone to getting filled with the likes of sand, causing blockages and overflowing.

Take extra care with your washing machine to prevent further damage but sticking to small loads, check for leaks and use rinse aid to keep the hoses clean.

Shower Drains

Blockages in your shower drain can be caused by sand, shells and things alike during the summer months. You can prevent this by using a drain cover every time you return from the beach. Also, keeping up with maintenance on your shower drain such as removing trapped hair will help prevent your drains getting blocked.

Cracked Pipes

In the summer, the lack of rainfall can cause the ground underneath your home to dry up causing pipes to crack. With this, the heat and UV rays can cause further damage to pipes.

If you notice signs of a damaged pipe system, you need to cover any exposed pipes with insulation to prevent further damage and get in touch with a local professional plumber.

The Water Valve

Any problems with your water valve can cause serious disruption in your home. Before anything goes wrong, get to know where your water valve is, how it works and how to fix it. This will make it easier to fix if anything goes wrong during the hotter months.

You should also switch your water valve off when you go on holiday to prevent any problems taking place while you’re away.

Call a Plumber

Whenever you notice a problem with your plumbing, get in touch with  plumbers frisco to make sure it is fixed efficiently. You can try to fix a minor problem yourself, but it’s always best to get a professional’s opinion in case the problem is larger than it looks.

Local plumbers should also be on hand quickly during the summer as they are usually busier during the winter months.

Keeping an eye on these specific problems during the summer will make it a lot easier to notice something if it goes wrong, so you can get an issue sorted quickly by a professional.
