5 Storage Hacks for Apartment Living

August 12, 2022

Apartments keep growing in popularity.

Now, millions of millennials and Gen Z’ers are living in studios and apartments up and down the country. Plus, it’s even become normal for families to live in apartments, particularly in big cities like New York. It’s what modern life is all about.

As fun as living in an apartment is, it does come with a slight downside: lack of storage space. Unless you’re living in a huge apartment somewhere, this is something you can probably relate to. When it comes to furniture and possessions, you have to be very smart with where you store things – otherwise, you’ll quickly run out of space.

Luckily, this guide is here to lend a helping hand. Inside are 5 storage hacks for apartment living, no matter which city you’re currently in.

Rent a storage unit

Renting a storage unit is the smartest thing you can do as an apartment owner.

In the US alone, there are thousands of storage units spread across all the main cities. All you need to do is check out StorageArea and choose one that’s closest to you.

Make sure to choose a storage unit that’s:

  • The right size
  • Within your budget range

Once all of that is sorted, you’ll pay an affordable monthly fee for your unit. Inside, you can store anything you like; from furniture to old memorabilia. Essentially, all of those items you don’t have space for in your apartment can be kept inside your storage unit safely and securely. Any time you want them back, just grab your keys, head down to your storage facility, and take them out – it’s that simple.

In an age where people are living in compact apartments, storage units are becoming increasingly popular – especially with younger generations!

Use hanging hooks

Many apartment owners fall into the trap of not using hanging hooks. Instead, they leave their clothes all over the place, which then creates clutter and mess.

So, if you haven’t already, make sure to invest in some hanging hooks for your closets. After doing this, you can arrange all of your clothing items neatly inside.

Make use of drawers

Small and large draws are great for storage.

Inside them, you can store tons of items, such as makeup, books, and memorabilia.

Best of all, you can buy drawers for pretty cheap, meaning you don’t need to break the bank.

Add floating shelves (if you’re allowed to)

If you’re renting your apartment, you might not be allowed to add floating shelves to the walls.

However, if you are allowed to, then this is something you should absolutely do! This way, you don’t have to dedicate any more floor space to storage – instead, the walls can do it for you!

Donate old items you no longer need

To finish off, make sure to donate any old items you no longer need to charity. This is a much better alternative to throwing your old items away or allowing them to take up unnecessary space in your apartment. Check Google out to see which charities are in your local area.
