7 Ways To Support Your Health When You Travel

If you are planning an upcoming trip, staying healthy while you are gone should be a top priority. Unfortunately, it is not always one of the first things that people think of when considering travel plans. In truth, however, traveling is one of the easiest ways to catch an illness. With so many people packed into planes, trains and airports, these types of places make ideal environments for germs to easily transfer.

For this reason, it can be useful to think ahead about ways to support your health whenever you travel. Aside from standard protocols such as washing your hands and wearing a mask when appropriate, consider some of these healthy traveling tips to keep you and your family well.

1. Get Enough Sleep

Whether you are at home or on the road, getting enough sleep is one of the best ways to support your immune system. Generally, travel also requires a substantial amount of mental and physical energy. Even if you are not moving much on a plane or while waiting at a train station, sitting around and transferring locations also uses up more energy than you might think. Make sure to get at least seven hours every night.

2. Pack a First Aid Kit

An easy way to prepare for minor injuries and other health-related incidents is to pack a first aid kit. If you already have one, double-check the expiration date on the contents and see if there are any necessities you might need to add. If you are traveling by plane, be sure to store it in your carry-on luggage so it is easily accessible.

3. Remember Your Vitamins and Supplements

In addition to remembering any prescribed medications that you may need, also pack daily vitamins and supplements to support your health. For many travelers, this means bringing along some Vitamin C or D to support immunity or a magnesium, iron or coq10 supplement. Coq10 can support your heart health. Whether you use a daily moisturizer that includes SPF protection or opt for more traditional sunscreen, both can be useful. If you are going somewhere windy, bring along lip balm, too.

6. Update Your Vaccinations

When was the last time you had an update on all of your standard vaccinations? If you plan on using public transportation or traveling outside of the country, vaccinating is especially important. If you are unsure what types of vaccines you need, you can check with your doctor or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for recommendations.

7. Communicate With Travel Companions

Depending on who you are traveling with, sometimes travel companions can make it extra challenging to stay healthy, especially when it comes to food and eating out at restaurants. If staying healthy is important to you, communicating your plans to your travel companions can be a helpful way to stay on top of your game while limiting temptations that may present themselves while you are together.

When you are planning ahead for an upcoming trip, there are many things to consider. You can always choose luxury travel to prevent less strain on your physical strength by renting private jets. While you are busy booking hotels, transportation and whatever fun activities you will be doing, make a point to remember ways to keep healthy, too.
