Artificial Living Walls Vs. Natural Green Walls: Which One To Choose?

August 27, 2022

Whether you are going for the natural theme or simply wish to introduce some greenery into your living space, green walls are an interior décor trend to watch. You have two options: artificial living walls vs. natural green walls. Depending on the layout of your space as well as how many walls you want, you may even make use of a combination of the two!

Read on to find out more about what you can expect from each choice.

The Case for Artificial Living Walls

One thing that will speak to you about artificial living walls is how low maintenance they are. Unlike natural green walls, you do not need to keep them watered or pruned. You also get more flexibility with placement and positioning as you don’t have to consider optimal sunlight exposure. You can be sure that your plants will be in bloom all year round, and many artificial plants look just as good as the real thing!

In addition, you will not have to worry about plants dying due to being away from their natural environment. Of course, that is not to say that artificial living walls require no maintenance at all, but this is generally limited to cleaning, wiping down and dusting from time to time. All things being equal, artificial living walls will have a much longer lifespan than real green walls. Some can last up to 10 years with the proper maintenance!

The Case for Real Green Walls

On the other hand, there are many good reasons to consider real green walls as well. If your wall is going to be situated at a covered outdoor area, you may be able to work with a greater variety of plants. However, if your wall is going to be indoors, you will have to consider whether it is well-positioned to receive sunlight.

Another benefit of real green walls is that they can attract wildlife and encourage biodiversity. If you are considering having one in the outdoor seating area of your commercial space, this can be a good choice. However, you will have to keep in mind the cost and effort of regular maintenance.

From the trimming of foliage to frequent watering, these tasks will have to be attended to timely. A tight hand will need to be kept on the air and temperature conditions of the surrounding area as well. Another thing to remember is that having real plants in an indoor space can affect the air quality and humidity of the area. You also have to be prepared for unforeseen situations that may arise, such as bug infestations.

What Will Work Best for You?

Bearing everything in mind, the best option for you will depend on the specifications of your available space as well as your personal preferences. A recommended option is a custom artificial living wall. Its versatility and geometric designs enable it to be installed almost everywhere.
