When moving home it can be a stressful time, especially if you have never moved before. In today's article, we will talk about some of the things that no one covers. Here are some of the tips we thought you should know when moving home.
Your going to need storage
Moving all your items on the same day is a great way of putting unneeded stress on yourself and your family. Storage allows you to move items to it gradually as the moving day comes closer. Self storage is cheap and if you do your research you can sign up to a company that doesn’t require a long commitment too. When moving home you don’t need to rent a storage unit for 6 months you just need them for a month or two at most.
A moving home checklist is also something that can make a move less stressful and we would highly recommend using one.
Your going to need specialist equipment for heavy items
If you are going to move home yourself and you have heavy equipment in your home then you are going to need specialist equipment such as hoists to avoid scratching your flooring. You can buy these hoists off places like Amazon or you can go to a specialist store near you. If you do have heavy items, we would recommend if your budget allows it to have a moving specialist move the item for you. That way you protect yourself, your item and your flooring.
Your going to need a moving van
If this is your first time moving then maybe you don’t have as many possessions as you would have if you had purchased the property in the past and had filled it with your belongings. In this case, you may not need a van but for most of us, when moving we will need a van.
When loading your van it’s important to know how items should be stored too, for example, fridges need to be stored upright or you could damage them. When a fridge is laid down on its side the gasses and oils inside can mix which can destroy them. Having a small car or lying an item such as a fridge down can cause damage if you don’t know what you are doing.
It will be stressful
Even when you have taken all the above steps moving can still be stressful so if you go into a move knowing that it will be hard at least you will be in the right frame of mind before moving. If you do have a family it may be worth seeing if someone can look after your kids or any family pets before moving day, this way you can concentrate on the move while keeping your family safe.
If you do have to move with your children and pets, be sure to make sure you pack enough treats, food, drink and anything else to keep them all entertained and safe.
