4 Items to Add to an Empty-Looking Room

September 28, 2022

When it comes to filling your room with items – whether practical ones like furniture and your TV or decorative ones like candles and art – there’s a fine line to walk.

On the one hand, you don’t want to add too many things and end up with an overly full room, but on the other hand, you also don’t want to have the room looking bare and empty. So, if you have an empty-looking room and you’re looking for some things to fill it with, then this is the post for you.

A table

As far as furniture options go, a table is a great way to fill empty space. This is because items like chairs and cabinets often go against the walls, which means they only fill the space on one side of the room, and you will likely need to find a way to balance it out by filling the rest of the space.

A table, on the other hand, can be placed in the middle of the room, which creates a fuller and more balanced effect. If possible, try to go for a statement table like a bistro table.

A rug

You don’t always need to add big or bulky pieces to a room, especially if they won’t be useful. You might be surprised to learn this, but just because a room looks empty doesn’t mean it is empty.

For example, if you have everything you need in your bedroom – a bed and bedside tables, a desk and chair, and a chest of drawers – your room can still look empty. But it isn’t, because there’s nothing else you need. So, instead of spending a lot of money on furniture that you’ll never use just so that the room looks fuller, you should consider getting a rug.

This way, the room will look fuller without you spending too much money.

Pillows and blankets

Once again, you don’t necessarily need to buy big new items to fill the space. You can also simply take what you already have in the room and try to make some small adjustments so that they look like they take up more space.

The easiest way to do this is to add some pillows and blankets to your couch or bed. Not only will this make the room look fuller by adding some dimension, but it’s also the perfect opportunity for you to make some pillow covers.

Chairs

As mentioned, the best furniture to add if you have an empty-looking room is a table, but if you’re looking for seating options, chairs are a much better route than couches if you want a room to look fuller.

This is because a two-seater couch may only take up half the space of the wall, but if you have two chairs, you can place one in each corner. Thus, even though the seating will be the same, more space will be filled. If you need some tips for arranging furniture in an awkward living room, you can click here.
