5 Home Issues You Need to Fix ASAP

October 11, 2022

Home issues can be quite annoying, inconvenient, or even downright dangerous. They are all things you want to avoid. That's why most people would just rather put off dealing with anything that could lead to a larger problem down the road.

But letting these serious issues fester means more expensive repairs later on — and some of them can potentially become safety hazards. So you must be constantly vigilant and keep your home looking (and functioning) at its best. Check out this list of varioushome issues you need to fix ASAP.

Mold

Mold is a fungus that thrives in damp areas. It can grow on many surfaces, including walls, floors, and ceilings. If you have mold in your home, you may experience health problems such as a runny nose or itchy eyes.

To remove mold from your home:

  • Use a mild bleach solution to kill the mold spores, and then scrub it off with a brush or sponge. Be careful not to breathe in any fumes while cleaning.
  • Turn off all fans and air conditioning units before beginning work so they do not spread dust particles throughout your home.

Clogged Gutters

Gutters are the first line of defense against rainwater, but they can also indicate more serious trouble. If your gutters are clogged or damaged, the water will have nowhere to go except down your walls or basement. This can lead to mold growth, structural damage, and even more expensive repairs down the road.

Gutters should be cleaned regularly by professionals who know how to work safely on roofs. If you aren't ready for professional help yet, then research on how to clean out clogs yourself (many items from around the house will work).

Foundational or Structural Issues

Foundational or structural issues are one of the most serious problems in a home. This issue is caused by the deterioration or failure of the foundation, walls, basement, and/or roof. These issues can lead to major damage that may threaten your safety and require extensive repair work.

There are two things you can do if you have a foundational issue with your home:

  • Contact a professional for an inspection. A home inspector can determine if there is anything wrong with your structure and what needs to be done to fix it.
  • Consider hiring an engineer specializing in foundations or structural matters whenever possible because they can provide more information than general contractors unfamiliar with these areas.

Loose Paver Tiles

Loose pavers can be extremely dangerous. If you have a large area of loose pavers, it is best to hire a professional to fix them. You don't want anyone stepping on them and suffering injury or worse. Loose pavers are easy to fix when you have the right tools and equipment.

Place a some mortar over the cracks and press down on the pavers until they level with each other again. Contact a residential paving company for assistance if you are not confident about your DIY skills.

Cracks in the Sidewalk or Driveway

The sidewalk and driveway are among the most important parts of your property. They are also among the first things visitors see when they arrive at your house. When those sidewalks and driveways start to crack, it makes a bad impression on everyone who comes through your front door (and can make them trip).

So if you've got cracks in your pavement, call a residential paving company for help as soon as possible. They will be able to assess the situation and recommend an affordable solution that will keep your walkway looking great for years to come.

Final Word

Whether you're a renter or a homeowner, paying attention to your home's maintenance needs is important. If you ignore them, they'll only get worse and cause more damage in the process. Unless you are confident about your DIY skills, take cues from the tips mentioned above.
