5 Environmental Forces Vinyl Fencing Can Withstand

November 28, 2022

There are many factors to consider when choosing what type of fencing best suits your property. The ideal backyard fencing is aesthetically pleasing and robust enough to withstand potential environmental threats.

When you buy vinyl fencing, you are buying a product designed to stand up to the elements. For example, good fencing in Hawaii can also handle New England winters.

You may have a few questions about the environment and how it might affect your new fence. In this blog, we’ll take a look at five environmental forces that a vinyl fence can endure.

Strong Winds

No matter where you live, natural elements can wreak havoc on any outdoor structure. However, not all fences are equally resistant to changing weather.

You wouldn’t want a weak type of fencing to be susceptible to falling over or being blown away by the wind.

If you want to install a vinyl fence in an area with high winds, ensure it is used appropriately. A vinyl fence is not meant to be installed as an enclosed fence. It should be installed as a border fence that is open in the center.

If you are in an area that gets a lot of rainfall, you should make sure that your fence is made out of a material that can withstand a lot of water. A vinyl fence can withstand moderate rainfall because of its naturally waterproof structure.

UV Rays

If you live in an area that gets a lot of sunlight, you need to make sure that your fence is designed to withstand UV rays. Otherwise, it will fade quickly and turn gray. This will make your fence look old and weathered in a very short amount of time.

A UV-treated vinyl fence will protect the fence's structure from damage while also protecting the color of the fence and making it last longer.

Weather Extremes

Cold weather can wreak havoc on your fencing, but it depends on whether you install a single- or double-sided fence. A double-sided fence has a wooden core between two sheets of vinyl. This type of fence is designed to be protected from the elements on both sides.

If you install a vinyl fence in an area with high temperatures, make sure that you choose a fence that has been specially designed to withstand hot conditions. Also, make sure that you install the fence in such a way that it can protect from the sun and stay shaded from direct sunlight.

Pest Infestation

There are many different types of fencing that can be used in different environments: wood, stone, brick, metal, or synthetic materials like plastic and vinyl. However, keep in mind that insects love wood fencing.

Vinyl fences are essentially pest-proof, as they don’t attract nuisance pests like other types of fencing.

If you are installing a fence in your yard, you want to make sure that it can withstand the extreme weather conditions of your area. Vinyl is popular among homeowners because it is durable in all weather conditions and requires little to no maintenance.
