1. Bridgeport
Bridgeport is not only the most dangerous city in Connecticut but also one of the most dangerous cities in the entire country! With a population of about 148,000 people it has a violent crime rate of 1,057 per 100,000 – that’s more than triple the national average! Its property crime rate isn’t much better either at 4,914 per 100,000. All told there were 7,171 reported crimes here last year which averages out to just under 20 every single day...yikes!
2. New Haven
New Haven is the third largest city in Connecticut with a population of about 130,000 people. It also has the second highest violent crime rate in the state at 966 per 100,000 people. Additionally New Haven's property crime rate of 4,714 per 100 000 people is the highest of any city in Connecticut. In total there were 6,084 crimes reported here last year – that’s almost 17 crimes every single day!
3. Waterbury
Waterbury has a population of just over 110,000 and an extremely high violent crime rate of 1,003 per 100,000 people—the second highest in all of Connecticut. Its property crime rate of 3,667 per 100,000 people is also very high. In total, there were 4474 crimes reported in Waterbury last year.
4. Stamford
Stamford is another fairly large city in Connecticut, with a population of about 129,000 people. It also has a high violent crime rate of 660 per 100,000 people—the fourth highest in the state. However, its property crime rate of 2,941 per 100,000 people is actually below average. In all, there were 1,965 crimes reported in Stamford last year.
5. Hartford
Hartford, the state capital, has a population of just over 124,000 people. The city's violent crime rate of 769 per 100,000 people is more than double the national average, and its property crime rate of 4,915 per 100,000 is also well above average. Overall, there were a total of 2,455 crimes reported in Hartford in 2018.
