Violent crimes are relatively rare in Dover, with a rate of 398 per 100,000 residents. However, property crimes are quite common, with a rate of 1,823 per 100 000 residents. This means that if you live in Dover, you have a one in 55 chance of being the victim of a property crime.

What Makes Dover So Dangerous?

Dover's high crime rate is partially due to its high poverty and unemployment rates. More than 23% of Dover's residents live below the poverty line and the Unemployment rate is higher than the national average. Additionally, like Wilmington, Dover has significant gang activity. There are more than 15 active gangs in Dover, and they are responsible for much of the drug dealing and violence that takes place in the city.
