7 Things That Can Lead to Slip-and-Fall Accidents in Workplace

December 28, 2022

Slip and fall accidents can be a serious matter. A number of different factors cause them. Some are accidental, and some are preventable. However, the end result is always serious injuries to you or anyone involved. Here are seven things that can lead to slip-and-fall accidents in the workplace:

1. Water Damage

Water damage can be caused by rain or floodwater. In any case, this is a very serious issue that requires immediate attention. Water damages the flooring and other building materials around your workplace, and this can lead to slippage or tipping off of objects within the premises.

2. Poor Lighting

Poor lighting can cause you to trip or slip over something that is not directly in your line of sight. This is very common for workplaces that are poorly lit or areas where bulbs have gone out, and no one has been around to replace them. If you are injured in a slip and fall accident, you should call an attorney to speak about the possibility of filing a lawsuit for your injuries.

3. Hazardous Waste

Hazardous waste is classified as toxic materials like paint and flammables like cleaners and fuels used by employees in the workplace. Despite being dangerous, employers usually don't know how to handle these substances safely until an accident happens. This is why it is necessary to make sure that these materials are properly stored and put away. If an employee handles paint carelessly and spills it, people who step on it may slip and fall.

4. Misplaced Equipment

Misplaced equipment that is not in working condition can also lead to a workplace slip-and-fall accident. This includes things like broken machinery, power tools that can suddenly fall apart, and any misplaced tools or equipment within the workplace premises. Always keep the tools where they should be.

5. Ice

Icicles tend to form on rafters during cold weather, but they can also start forming inside walls and ceilings of your working environment as well. They have sharp edges that can cut you or someone else who is in the workplace with you. You should keep an eye out for icicles while working to avoid being hurt by them falling from high up onto your body. It is not the only problem with ice. Ice on the floor can make the floor very slippery. Employees should be very careful when walking on ice.

6. Potholes or cracks

Cracks or potholes that can be found within the premises of a workplace can cause slip-and-fall accidents. These hazards not only present a risk to people passing by them, but they can also injure anyone walking around the premise with their eyes focused on another work detail.

7. Excess Junk

When working in a confined space, it is important to make sure that you do not leave any items lying around that can cause someone to trip or slip over them. This includes things like boxes, tools, and debris from work being performed nearby the area where you are working. The less space there is for your body to move in, the more likely you are to have a workplace slip-and-fall accident.

In conclusion, all these different factors can lead to slip-and-fall accidents in the workplace. If you have been injured at work due to a hazardous condition or another reason, then you should speak with an attorney who can help you with the claim process of getting compensated for your injuries.
