Anyone with even a limited know-how of cars knows that a diesel engine is nothing like your other engines and it warrants special attention owing to its complexity. If you are someone who just wants to sit in his car and go on without much consideration, diesel engines are not for you. Diesel engines use high compression to ignite the mixture in their cylinders, unlike gasoline-powered engines that use spark plugs or electric current. Diesel engines produce more torque hence more power even at lower speeds. In all, diesel engines are spectacular and quite different than the other engine genres and if you keep some of their maintenance points in check, most VW 2.0 TDi issues can be avoided.

• Keep your engine clean at all times. It is often said that their lifespan is longer than their competitors but that’s only possible if they are kept clean from dirt, greases, and dust. • Not only oil but other fluids must also be kept at recommended levels. The anti-freeze, power steering fluid, and brake fluids must be checked periodically to maintain the optimum performance levels. Cold weather impact heavily on diesel engines and lack of any fluid leads to additional problems.
• Use a good quality air filter and don’t run it above the prescribed limit. It will be better to change it even before the safe threshold. Filthy filters can easily choke diesel engines and hence more fuel consumption.
• We all know the function of the radiator it keeps the car cool and prevents overheating. Diesel engines run hotter than other types and thus chances of overheating increase manifold. An overheated engine leads to complete engine failure. Always keep your radiator serviced and run diagnostics now and then. Moreover, use a good quality coolant. In case of any bad smell, steam, or fluid lead immediately stop your car and seek professional help.
• The whole performance of the diesel engine depends upon the two fuel filters it uses against the standard one. Diesel is less refined than other fuels and needs an extra filter. A filthy fuel filter fails to clean the diesel properly and water particles are left in it leading to decreased horsepower.
• Using the right fuel is always the key. Diesel engines with diesel fuel and the same go for gas engines. Otherwise, the engines won’t give their peak performance. It becomes more important with diesel engines as using the wrong fuel can lead to some major problems.

Although slightly more difficult to maintain than the gasoline versions, the diesel engines can be greatly enjoyed by fulfilling the above-given requirements.
