New York State has a lot going for it. There are cities like NYC where you can find just about anything that interests you. Then, there’s Florida, with nice weather and pleasant beaches.

Before you start looking for apartments for sale in NYC, you should consider what each of these states offers. We’ll compare them in the following article.

New York Perks

If you live in New York City, there’s a little something for everybody. There are world-class museums. There are fantastic restaurants featuring virtually any kind of ethnic food you like.

You can live in the hustle and bustle of Midtown Manhattan if you can afford it. There are also much quieter communities in Brooklyn and the Bronx if you’d like to avoid the tourists.

You can also live upstate in Buffalo or Rochester. These are smaller communities that are typically much more affordable than NYC.

New York Disadvantages

The expense is usually cited as the worst thing about living in NYC. It is challenging to find affordable housing unless you’re doing well for yourself financially.

Also, taking public transportation can wear you down. The trains tend to get stuck on the tracks and sit there, delaying your commute. If you try to drive, you must avoid bike messengers and crazed cab drivers. If you live upstate, you’ll have to deal with some serious ice and snow in the winters.

Florida Perks

Florida has some large cities like Miami and Jacksonville. Like most bigger cities, you can find plenty of excellent restaurants, particularly Cuban food. You’re also usually not far from the beach. You can lie out on a towel and get some sun, or you can go fishing, boating, or surfing.

You might also go to a more rural area of the panhandle. There, you can find cheaper housing and more isolated beaches. You can avoid the urban sprawl and retire in relative obscurity if you value your privacy and have enough money to live comfortably during your Golden Years.

Florida Disadvantages

Florida is a conservative state, which some people don’t like. If you’re going to live there, you should probably make sure that your political beliefs align with those of your neighbors. If they don’t, you might get into arguments regularly.

The cost if you live in a city like Miami is hardly less than that of NYC. Apartments aren’t cheap, and homeownership is just a pipe dream unless you have plenty of money to spend.

If you live in a more rural section of Florida, there aren’t usually many places to walk or ride a bike safely. Much of the state is geared toward cars instead of pedestrians.

Also, there’s hurricane season to consider. The sunny weather is lovely for some of the year, but you’re exposed to tropical storms that can wreak catastrophic damage.

It’s clear that both of these states have certain features to recommend them, but there are downsides to each as well. Think about what we’ve said and make your choice accordingly.
