4 Modern Style Trends That Are Here to Stay

February 27, 2023

Fashion goes through phases. It has seasons and eras; some are iconic, while others are odd. Although different eras might be more distinct than others, they make sense during their time. Right now, athleisure is one such trend, you can wear sneakers to the gym, work, or a night out.

Once in a while, a style can make a comeback. Some fashion trends making a comeback include bell bottoms, biker shorts, turtle necks, and chokers. Read on to discover other trendsetting fashion items, whether they’re more recently popular or coming back into style.

1. Geometric Shapes

Since the beginning of time, humans have seemingly been obsessed with geometric shapes. You will find geometric shapes in artistic, religious, cultural, and scientific recordings, from rock paintings to humankind's most prolific writings. There will always be an obsession with the order, harmony, and proportion of shapes.

Fashion is no different; you will find geometric shapes infused with bright colors, dynamic structures, and intricate patterns to make interesting outfits. An example would be eyeglasses. The accessory is essential for the fashionable and those with eye problems.

Eyeglasses come in geometric shapes such as round, oval, rectangles, and can even come in the shape of a star. The shape that will work for you depends on the shape of your face, outfits, and function, among other factors. There is a range of unisex prescription glasses that you can browse through to get the ideal pair for yourself or even as a gift.

2. Minimalism

Minimalism is about doing more with less. In fashion, it means keeping a versatile set of essentials that will work throughout any occasion, season, or function. As a fashion trend, it lends itself to another rising movement: sustainable living.

Geometry in fashion also appeals to the minimalist; its unique appeal is in clean lines and simple designs. The right fashion items are timeless and get better with age. You can achieve a minimalist wardrobe by adding items like a trench coat, ribbed collared sweater, shirtdress with tiered hemlines, below-the-knee-length midi skirt, penny loafers, or square-toe sole sandals.

3. Natural Materials

Consumers have become aware of their purchasing impact with more access to information. The fashion industry is one of many that the consumer's consciousness has impacted. Regarding pollution, fashion is responsible for 20 percent, second only to the oil industry. Consumers are demanding sustainable fashion, which is environmentally friendly and made ethically. Sustainable fashion can be in the form of:

Ethical Fashion

Champion fair trade practices, good working conditions, and production. It's a moral ethic not to harm both humans or animals through manufacturing processes.

Circular Fashion

advocates for materials and products that can circulate among people for as long as possible. It encapsulates principles like recycling, upcycling, and thrifting.

Slow Fashion

Slow fashion is the opposite of fast fashion. It takes a long-term view of the product life cycle by making it last longer and reducing the need to buy new stuff.

Conscious Fashion

Conscious fashion is a campaign to motivate consumers to buy eco-friendly fashion and get behind the green fashion movement.

A fashion brand can focus on some or all different forms of sustainable fashion. One trend that is rising in sustainable fashion is that of natural clothing. Natural clothing is fashion items that only use natural materials.

The fabric is entirely natural and is derived straight from nature without synthetic fibers. Natural clothing has no artificial dye or unnatural chemicals. Since it doesn't have any synthetic material, like polyester, natural clothing doesn't hold static. The fabric also breathes and keeps the wearer cool. Natural fiber materials include organic cotton, silk, linen, hemp, seaweed, and bamboo.

4. Neutral Colors

Neutral colors are the antithesis of bright colors, which evoke excitement and energy. Neutral colors such as white, black, beige, and gray can evoke a sense of calm and peace.

Simple, neutral colors have been around for ages, including in traditional and historic decorative schemes. Their simple nature also makes them more accessible and popular among the masses. They also provide a versatile base upon which a person can layer with various decorative possibilities.

In fashion, neutral colors can help you maintain a minimalist wardrobe. Neutral colors also make getting dressed easier. To get the most from neutral colors, you can;

  • Mix different fabrics to create interest. The fabric can be on the dress or accessory like a bag - these varied fabrics will help make an outfit anything but plain.
  • Patterns are another way you can bring more life into an outfit. For example, you can mix something with stripes and another item with polka dots.
  • Add accessories as a statement piece. Statement pieces like a belt, shoe, or bag can make a neutral look more intentional and stylish.
  • Use denim as a base for an all-neutral outfit. Blue denim works well with creams and tans.

Stay on Trend

In a fast-paced world, there is a whirlwind of new trends. Some will be here to stay, so it helps if you spot them. Knowing which trends are here to stay will ensure you live a more sustainable, simpler life. You can use shapes and patterns to bring harmony and order to your style. The materials you use can also be a statement of taste and sustainability.

You can go even further by focusing on your wardrobe’s essentials, which will allow you to minimize and keep it simple. Keep in mind that neutral colors don't have to be dull; you can use different fabrics, patterns, and accessories to give your wardrobe more depth.

Fashion has a lot of trends that come and go. When you identify long-lasting styles, you can reduce the anxiety that comes with an overextended wardrobe. Choose items that will remain fashionable, no matter the trend.
