There are lots of fun things to do in Overland Park - from shopping to art, sports and museums. Overland Park is the second most populous city in Kansas and has a great variety of activities to keep you busy.

A visit to the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a must-see. It features 300 acres of beautiful greenery and over 75 kinds of trees.

Indian Creek Hike and Bike Trail

The Indian Creek Hike and Bike Trail links two states, four communities, and a multitude of parks along Indian Creek. The paved trails carve a slice of green through even the busiest parts of Overland Park, Olathe and Leawood.

Whether you’re looking for a short walk or an extended bike ride, the Indian Creek Hike and Bike Trail has something for everyone. You can hike to a waterfall, picnic in a natural setting, or enjoy a round of golf at one of the area’s top courses.

The trails at Indian Creek feature a variety of terrain, including prairies, woodlands and wetlands. You’ll find a wealth of wildlife, too. From deer, turkey and quail to beavers, raccoons, foxes and bull snakes. The trails also feature historical relics, such as a family cemetery and farm homesteads.

Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art

Located on the Johnson County Community College campus, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art is the largest contemporary art museum in a four-state region. Named for local philanthropists Jerry and Margaret Nerman, the museum’s understated design, exhibitions and educational programming have garnered national and international recognition.

Designed by architect Kyu Sung Woo, the elegant building consists of galleries for permanent and temporary exhibitions. It also houses the M.R. and Evelyn Hudson Auditorium, Cafe Tempo, two classrooms and art storage and preparation spaces.

The Nerman Museum presents 16 exhibitions per year and features works by internationally acclaimed artists. Its collections include American Indian art, Latino art, photography and new media. Its youth classes are popular, with Saturday studio classes for children scheduled throughout the academic year and weekdays during the summer.

Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Garden

The Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a 300-acre (120-hectare) nature site crisscrossed with walks and trails that take you through gardens of diverse ecosystems. It’s a peaceful place to enjoy the outdoors and has something for everyone.

There are 13 gardens to explore, along with trails and paths that showcase a variety of flowers and plants. The property also features a water garden with small waterfalls.

A major part of the Arboretum’s mission is to help with prairie restoration. This is done by reseeding, haying and burning areas to simulate the prairie that was once there. Plants used include Big Bluestem, Little Bluestem and Indian grass.

Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead

Located at 138th and Switzer Road, the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead offers plenty of activities and attractions for kids. Established in 1978, this family-friendly attraction depicts a turn-of-the-century Kansas farm.

The 12-acre educational environment cultivates an appreciation for farm life, wildlife and Kansas heritage. It shows nearly 250 animals and birds of prey, a show garden, butterfly gardens, a Kanza Native American display, a full-scale one-room schoolhouse, an old-time fishing pond, and more.

Visitors of all ages can interact with animals, mine for gemstones, bottle-feed pygmy goats, watch a live milking demonstration and more. Pony and horse-drawn wagon rides, mining, and fishing are also offered for extra fees.

Overland Park Farmers’ Market

The Overland Park Farmers’ Market is a popular place to shop for fresh produce and local finds. The market is open on Saturdays 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The Market is a great place to find fresh fruit, vegetables, baked goods, plants, flowers and more. It also features a variety of vendors including local food trucks and live music.
