Mayborn Museum
The Mayborn Museum is a great place for kids to learn and play. This family-friendly museum is located on the Baylor University campus and consists of 16 discovery rooms, all uniquely themed.
Whether they’re learning about natural history or playing with water and bubbles, there’s something for everyone. The museum also has a historic village that mimics what life was like in the 1890s.
For a different experience, take your kids to the Waco Mammoth National Monument, where they can walk on glass above a semi-excavated block of mammoth skeletons. This makes it easy for them to see and interact with fossils they would otherwise be unable to.
Cameron Park Zoo
Located along the Brazos River, Cameron Park Zoo is one of Waco’s top attractions for families. Visitors to the zoo can see animals from all over the world and experience their natural habitats.
A family-friendly attraction, this 52-acre zoo is home to species from Africa, Asia and Europe. Its exhibits include a reptile house, an African lion display and Lemur Island.
Among the attractions is the Asian Forest expansion, featuring orangutans and Sumatran tigers. In addition to the zoo’s regular activities, there are special events throughout the year.
Hawaiian Falls Water Park
A 10-acre water park filled with sun-filled fun, Hawaiian Falls Waco offers a variety of rides and aquatic adventures for the entire family. Thrill-seekers can go head to head on the Pineapple Express raceway, and younger kids will love the shady spray ground splash pad and 800-foot lazy river.
The park also features the world’s first dueling multi tube racer where two two-person tubes are launched in opposite directions to compete against each other. And for the ultimate thrill, take a ride on the Tempest Tower to go down a body slide or covered tube chute.
Camelon Park Zoo
At this 52-acre natural habitat zoo, you’ll find lush native vegetation surrounding splashing waterfalls, a picturesque lake, and ponds. And in the midst of all this beauty, you’ll find the wild ones – over 1731 animals representing 300 species from around the world.
The Cameron Park Zoo is the brainchild of a group of local wildlife enthusiasts who put their heads together to showcase real live creatures to central Texas residents. They originally showcased their collection at the Heart O’ Texas Fair, attracting attention and garnering support.
Skate Waco
If you’re looking for a fun place to take the kids for some quality time, Skate Waco is the way to go. It’s a family-friendly entertainment center that offers roller skating, Laser Blast and the only indoor Laser Tag arena in Central Texas at its Waco location.
The facility also features a great quick-service snack bar, an arcade, 50/50 raffles and live entertainment. The best part is that it’s all located in the same building! So, you can spend a day or more with your family. And, it’s all for a very affordable price! It’s the perfect place to celebrate a birthday, or just enjoy some time together.
