Marcus and Jenny Meadows-Smith purchased the property in 2013 and planted a vineyard in 2014. The complex soils and hot days cooled by the delta breeze provide grapes with intense flavors that they ferment and age to create their award-winning wines.
Central Park is a popular gathering spot in downtown Davis, offering an array of activities and attractions for people of all ages. It features a lively bi-weekly farmers market, a town square, and a public garden.
The park is also the home of Shakespeare in the Park, an 1800-seat open-air theatre that is famous for its annual summer performances. This free series has starred top-notch actors from stage and screen.
Impossible Acres is a small family farm that grows a variety of fruits and vegetables. It offers crops such as raspberries, boysenberries, blackberries, ollalieberries, marionberries, peaches, apricots, plums, apples and pumpkins.
In the fall, the farm also hosts a pumpkin patch and petting zoo with barn animals. This is a fun place to spend the day with the whole family.
UC Davis Arboretum
One of the best things to do in Davis is visit the UC Davis Arboretum, which features over 22,000 trees and plants that are suited for the climate in the area. The 100 acres of curated greenery along the banks of Putah Creek offers a serene spot to stroll, jog or bike.
The UC Davis Arboretum is open 24 hours a day and it's free to visit. You can wander through the gardens or join a guided tour.
Located in downtown Davis, Varsity Theater is an old-style movie house that shows independent and foreign films. It also serves a variety of refreshments.
It's also a favorite destination for many students at UC Davis. Second-year biology major Shkula Amadi and second-year psychology major Maldonado-Puac both said that they had fond memories of going to Varsity when they were younger.
Today, the Varsity Theatre is a must-visit place for those who love cinema. Executive manager, Maria Martinez, says that it’s more than a job for her.
Veterans Memorial Theater
Located in the heart of downtown Davis, Veterans Memorial Theater is an award-winning venue with a plethora of facilities. It is home to a 325 seat performing arts theater, an expansive courtyard and a bevy of amenities to make your event a breeze. The best part is that it is available for hire to the general public and boasts reasonable booking rates compared to many other venues in the area.
Design Museum of UC Davis
The Design Museum of UC Davis is a great place to learn about the art of design. It is free to visit and is located in Cruess Hall, room 124 on the campus.
The museum's exhibit, "Appreciation and Adaptation: Homage to Global Textiles," features traditional rugs and garments collected from Africa, Asia, South America and Central America. The collection highlights the distinctive weaving, dyeing and embroidery techniques used by artisans to communicate messages of human intelligence and cultural development.
UC Davis Museum of Anthropology
The UC Davis Museum of Anthropology curates collections of archaeological, ethnographic, biological and archival materials. It also maintains a teaching collection that includes casts and reproductions of artifacts from a variety of prehistoric human groups.
Visitors will find out about yeast and bacteria in the Phaff Yeast Culture Collection, and about the raptors at the California Raptor Center. Other activities will include a petting zoo, atlatl dart throwing and a chance to learn about ancient hunters.
University of California Museum of Photography
