Things to Do in Guntersville, Alabama

February 28, 2023

Water is an integral part of life in Guntersville, a North Alabama city surrounded by the state’s largest lake. From fishing to kayaking, there are plenty of ways to explore Lake Guntersville.

If you’re a fan of power boating, make sure to check out Hydrofest. It’s an annual festival that happens in June.

1. Lake Guntersville State Park

If you're looking for a relaxing vacation in the state of Alabama, Lake Guntersville State Park is one of the best options around. It's got a huge resort inn, restaurant and convention complex that will provide you with a memorable experience.

The largest lake in the state, Lake Guntersville offers a variety of recreational activities for all ages. From the 18-hole championship golf course, to the Screaming Eagle Zipline and a beach complex, you'll find plenty to keep you busy here.

It's also home to an ever-increasing nesting bald eagle population. Thanks to the efforts of conservationists, the park has become a mainstay in Eagle Awareness programs, entertaining and educating people on Alabama's once-endangered national symbol.

2. Whole Backstage Theater

The Whole Backstage Theater is Marshall County’s only community theater. Located in downtown Guntersville, the theater produces a variety of quality shows throughout the year.

The theater has a 25-member board of directors. The organization’s mission is to provide a cultural outlet that is entertaining, engaging and educational.

It has four shows every season, including a summer musical. The group also hosts theater camps for young aspiring actors.

Founded in 1973, the Whole Backstage Theatre is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. It produces a variety of quality shows and is a must-visit for anyone who loves to watch plays.

The Guntersville Museum and Cultural Center is a castellated structure that was built in 1936 from local limestone. The museum offers visitors a glimpse into the city’s history and culture through its natural history collection, local art, and Native American artifacts.

3. Levi’s on the Lake

Levi’s on the Lake is a casual bar with cocktails, live music and games. It’s part of the new City Harbor waterfront development on Lake Guntersville, developed by local resident Patrick Lawler.

The complex is currently under construction and includes a roster of restaurants, bars and shops. It also has a boutique hotel and condos overlooking the lake.

There are loads of different activities to do in the winter here, from ice fishing to horseback riding to snowmobiling. There are even some winter hiking options where you don’t need boots – you can wear special snowshoes that attach to your shoes.

If you’re looking for a little more excitement, try taking an aurora hunting trip where you can go out to chase the Northern Lights and see them dancing above the Arctic landscape. These trips last around 4 hours and are ideal for those who want a bit of adventure.

4. Rock House Eatery

Rock House Eatery in Guntersville is a great place to get some tasty food and drink. This restaurant also has some fun features, including a fully stocked bar and free Wifi.

The food is a solid choice, too, with a wide range of appetizers, salads and entrees to choose from. They even have an impressive selection of desserts. This is a must-visit while in town, especially during the holiday season.

The best part is that the restaurant is completely kid friendly, and even offers a kids menu. The staff is very accommodating and will help you find the perfect meal for your family. The restaurant is also a great place to pick up some gifts for friends and family back home. The restaurant has a large outdoor seating area that is ideal for enjoying the sunshine and warm weather, so be sure to take full advantage of this opportunity. There’s even a free shuttle that will take you to and from Lake Guntersville State Park.
