things to do in lufkin tx

There are a lot of things to do in Lufkin, Texas. Whether you’re a history buff, an animal lover or just a fun-loving person, there’s something for everyone!

Downtown Lufkin is a vibrant area full of historic buildings, dining and shopping opportunities. It’s also home to a handful of captivating murals by local artist Lance Hunter.

1. Kiwanis Park

Kiwanis Park is a great place to spend some time in Lufkin. It has a wide range of facilities that are perfect for family activities and picnics.

It also has fun features for the kids, such as slides and swings. Moreover, there is a shallow water feature where kids can play safely.

Another way to enjoy nature is to explore the 1.9 mile Lufkin Azalea Trail, which connects Grace Dunne Richardson Park to Kiwanis Park.

It is a public park with tennis, basketball and volleyball facilities. It also has on-site restrooms.

2. Forestry Museum

The Texas Forestry Museum is one of the largest forestry related museums in the nation. It has plenty to see and do for visitors of all ages.

It features permanent and changing exhibits that highlight special places, personalities and events that are important to the history of forestry in Texas. This includes the logging industry, paper manufacturing, and the lumber town lifestyle!

This logging focused museum is home to a variety of hands-on exhibits, old equipment and outdoor trains. It also has a gift store.

The museum offers many educational programs and summer camps for kids as well as lectures for adults. They also participate in a few community events like the CASA Home Tour and Touch a Truck.

3. SpringFest Rodeo

SpringFest is a family friendly street festival in downtown Lufkin on April 23rd. It will have a variety of fun activities, community entertainment, music, local food trucks, a Jeep and motorcycle show and more presented by Lufkin Parks and Recreation!

Take in some heart-pounding rodeo action as well as a concert at the George H. Henderson, Jr. Exposition Center in late February.

It’s no secret that Lufkin is surrounded by two national forests. So it’s only fitting that our town has an annual event devoted to the great outdoors.

The Angelina County AirFest is the year’s most exciting display of high-flying maneuvers. It also has a lot to offer for the entire family, including a petting zoo and rides. This is an ideal way to spend a weekend in Lufkin if you’re looking for something to do that won’t break the bank!

4. Neches River Rendezvous

If you are looking for a great way to spend a day, the Neches River Rendezvous is a fun and relaxing event. It is held the first Saturday in June at International Paper's North Boggy Slough Wildlife Management Area.

The Neches River is a pristine 400-mile wilderness corridor that is home to diverse bottomland forests, exceptional wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities. It is a haven for hunters, fisherman, hikers and canoeists who come to escape the bustle of life.

The Texas Conservation Alliance is trying to get the Neches River designated as a National Scenic River, which would offer some federal protections for the area. To do this, the federal government would have to conduct a study on the waterway and identify any impacts that the designation could have.

5. Downtown Lufkin

Downtown Lufkin is a thriving hub of retail, professional businesses, eateries and entertainment. The historic district is full of old-fashioned storefronts that have been restored and activated to create a vibrant community center.

In addition to shopping and dining, there are a variety of events that draw visitors from around the region. From the Downtown Hoe Down street festival in April to October’s Entertainment in the Park, there’s something for everyone in Lufkin.

Heritage Antiques & Art Studios is one of the many unique shops in downtown Lufkin. This place is a treasure trove of vintage and antique pieces that you won’t find anywhere else in town. You’ll also have a chance to see several exhibits by local artists. The store also features a cozy book nook for you to relax.
