1. Visit the Museum of Clean
If you’re a clean freak or just looking for an interesting way to pass the time, head to the Museum of Clean in Pocatello. Opened by world-renowned professional cleaner and author Don Aslett, this four-story family-friendly attraction is more than just a museum; it’s a destination.
Visitors will find a plethora of historic cleaning techniques and tools, as well as an array of fun activities designed to get kids pumped about clean. Plus, they’ll also have the chance to try out a vintage vacuum cleaner.
2. Visit the Lazy River
One of Pocatello’s most popular spots for a cool-off is the Lazy River at Ross Park Aquatic Complex. It features a pool with two lanes for lap swimmers, a large waterslide and a zero-depth swimming pool with a fun playground attraction.
What’s more, it is also a great place to try out some high-tech fitness equipment such as the Splash Dance, which is a spin on a traditional splash party. It’s a fun way to get the whole family involved in some summer-friendly exercise and the most exciting part is that it is totally free.
3. Visit the Gibson Jack Trail
The Gibson Jack Trail is an out-and-back trail that takes you through a nice forest near Pocatello, Idaho. It is popular for mountain biking and offers a great taste of the desert/forest landscapes of Southeast Idaho.
The trail starts at a gravel parking lot and climbs a singletrack that side hills Gibson Jack Creek. It begins with june grass, sage, and buckbrush before reaching an area of aspen groves and thicker pine stands.
This trail is open year round and features scenic views of Slate Mountain. It is a good place to explore the Bannock Range.
4. Visit the Standrod House
The Standrod House is one of the most famous landmarks in Pocatello. Designed by San Francisco architect Marcs Grunfor, it is a classic Chateauesque style home with a castle-like appearance.
The standout feature of the house is its staircase. It features an intricate ceiling mural and detailed woodwork.
The home also had a couple of notable feats of engineering including the first electrically lit house in Idaho and a coal furnace that provided central heating. Today the Standrod House is a private residence.
5. Visit the Farmers’ Market
The Farmers’ Market is the perfect place to stock up on local produce and sample some of Idaho’s finest cuisine. Located in Historic Downtown Pocatello, the event is held every Saturday from 9am to 1pm during the summer and winter months. You’ll find everything from locally grown fruits and veggies, to artisan cheeses, fresh breads, and pastries. The best part? It’s free to enter.
You’ll also be treated to the finest display of local arts and crafts, live music, food trucks, games, and more. The grand prize — a basket of yummies – will be the envy of your friends. The biggest drawback is that it’s only open on certain days and in some areas, which can make it difficult to plan your trip around.
