Things to Do in Richmond, Indiana

February 28, 2023

The area around Richmond has so much to offer – from family-friendly attractions to historical landmarks and outdoor recreational areas. Whether you want to go shopping or dining, there is something for everyone.

Start your day with a visit to Thistlethwaite Falls, a man-made waterfall that was formed through the diversion of a stream. Thistlethwaite Falls is a great respite for nature enthusiasts, and a perfect place to enjoy the outdoors!

Whitewater Valley Gorge Park

When you visit Whitewater Valley Gorge Park, you’ll enjoy a scenic trail that wanders through a river valley with limestone and shale cliffs. The pathway is popular with locals and visitors, who come to splash, hike, hunt for fossils, or just sit and relax.

In addition to the beautiful trails, the park also features a waterfall and a swinging bridge. The park is a great place for a family getaway!

The park is currently in a state of re-dedication. It’s a project that will take time, but it will be well worth the wait.

A lot of people in the community have fought for the gorge park to be improved. In the future, a number of activities will be added to it, including an amphitheater, a riverscape, and a playground.

Glen Miller Park

Glen Miller Park is a beautiful park with a variety of attractions and activities to enjoy. Visitors can take a stroll around the rose garden, relax by the pond or enjoy a picnic in one of the many shelters.

For history lovers, the Wayne County Historical Museum has a large collection of artifacts that tell the story of Richmond’s pioneer days. Here you can see everything from a 3,000 year old mummy to an exquisite 1880s dolls house.

Besides the museum, Glen Miller Park offers lots of fun and entertainment for all ages. You can also enjoy some great food and drink at local restaurants.

Roscoe’s Restaurant

Located in Richmond’s historic Depot District, Roscoe’s Restaurant is a pairing of a high end coffee bar and a wine and craft beer tap room in an up and coming part of the city. The cafe sells organic coffee and teas, a wide variety of soups and sandwiches along with flavorful wines and specialty, craft beers that cannot be found on tap anywhere else in the area.

Breakfast is a must at this restaurant, with an impressive line-up of omelets and egg dishes. You can also enjoy pancakes, French toast and Belgian waffles, among other options.

Richmond Civic Theatre

If you’re looking for a good time, there’s no shortage of venues to choose from. But if you’re a theatre buff, you might want to consider the Richmond Civic Theatre. This historic theater was built in 1909 and has since hosted a number of stage productions.

The theatre is home to several notable events and exhibitions. The newest is a musical event featuring the popular hit, “Newsies,” a story about Jack Kelly and his newsboy gang fighting to keep their jobs in a world of corporate greed. The show will run from May 6 through 14 at 7:30 p.m. It’s also a great place to see a performance of the nifty-looking musical “Drinking Habits,” which has been reimagined as a female-centric tale about two sisters who secretly make wine for their convent while trying to hide from their mother.

Clara’s Pizza King

Clara’s Pizza King is a funky, old-school joint that serves cracker-thin pizza. The family spot is also unique in that it has a double-decker bus inside of the restaurant, complete with dining tables.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of the chain or just happen to be in town, you should give this Richmond establishment a try. It’s a relaxed, family-friendly place that serves up pizza & sandwiches, plus salads & desserts.

As a rule, most Hoosiers can name a favorite Pizza King. But you may not know that there are actually two separate companies operating under that name in the state, each with its own licensing agreements.
