Rocky Mount is a beautiful city with plenty of outdoor adventures and a thriving arts community. It’s only an hour east of Raleigh, and offers many family-friendly things to do in the area.

For those seeking outdoor adventure, the Tar River Trail is a 3.9 mile trail that runs from Sunset Park to Battle Park in Rocky Mount. You can also paddle and kayak on the river from various access points.

Battle Park

Battle Park is the area’s main recreational hub, offering a boat ramp, fishing piers, picnic shelters, and more. It’s also a great place to hike and explore the Tar River Trail, which runs through the 93-acre forest.

Visitors can walk along a mile-long trail that has interpretive signs about the Civil War battle. There are also reenactments of the battle held every February.

Longleaf Communities started building Longleaf Battle Park in 2017. The community includes 71 English Cottage-style homes that are perfect for main floor living. They feature 2- to 4-bedrooms, two-car garages, and spacious living areas. Some models include den spaces, walk-in closets, and wrap-around porches.

Rocky Mount Mills

There is a wealth of activities and attractions in Rocky Mount to keep you busy! Whether you are looking to explore nature or enjoy a good laugh, there is something for everyone in this charming North Carolina town.

City Lake Park is a great place to take a walk, run or simply sit and relax. It features a concrete walking path around the lake and is one of the best places to picnic in the city.

Another great thing to do is visit the Tar River Trail, a popular tourist destination that runs along the Tar River where the Tuscarora Native Americans lived before Europeans arrived in the area. Most of the trail is paved but there is a section that features a boardwalk as it travels through marshy areas.

Nash County Farmers Market

The Nash County Farmers Market is a place where visitors can meet local growers and artisans. The market offers produce, plants, freshly caught seafood, jams and jellies, artisan bread, handmade crafts, and local craft beer.

This market also serves as a community center, offering a variety of entertainment for the entire family. Kids can play with the train, skateboards, splash pad, carousel, and playground.

The market was founded on a philosophy that supports long term economic development and preservation of our local farming community. It is a “Producer Only” market, where vendors sell only products they actually grow or produce within a 50-mile radius.

Tar River Flea Market

Tar River Flea Market is a popular spot for shopping with its indoor and outdoor markets. It has over 200 vendors selling everything from toys and books to antiques and home appliances.

A trip to Rocky Mount is incomplete without a visit to this amazing location. It is also known for its thriving arts scene and local breweries just an hour away from Raleigh.

The city is also known for its amazing nature and hiking trails, a great way to get out and explore the area. It is also a popular place to visit with family and friends, especially during the summer season.

Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences

The Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences has been a Rocky Mount staple since 1903. It’s one of eastern North Carolina’s premiere cultural attractions.

It houses a children’s museum and art gallery, a theatre, and an art education building. This 135,000 square foot facility is housed in a historic restoration of the old Imperial Tobacco Company processing plant and Braswell Library.

The Imperial Centre also offers a host of other activities and attractions to keep everyone entertained. Kids can learn about life on Earth through a live animal gallery, Cummins Planetarium, and a 3,000 gallon salt water aquarium.

Booker T Theater

The Booker T Theater is a historic theater in downtown Rocky Mount that was once known as the Savoy. It was recently restored and reopened as a multi-purpose entertainment facility.

It offers shows and events in many genres, including music, comedy, theatre and more. It also hosts recitals by Booker T Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts students.
