Currently, Ari Emanuel is the co-CEO of William Morris Endeavor (WME) or WME-IMG, an entertainment and media agency. He is also a talent agent and was one of the founding partners of the company.
Born in 1961 in Chicago, Illinois, he grew up in a Jewish family and is the younger brother of Mayor Rahm Emanuel. He studied at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he shared a dorm with "Friday Night Lights" director Peter Berg.
His mother Marsha Emanuel was a civil rights activist and she took him to protests against the Vietnam War. At school, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. He was helped by his mother to read in third grade.
When he was in high school, he became an agent trainee at CAA and also completed a mailroom education program. He then worked as a senior agent at ICM Partners and later founded his own agency.
In 1995, he and a few of his ICM TV colleagues came up with a plan to start their own agency. The plan was uncovered by Jeff Berg, the chairman of ICM and they were immediately fired from their positions.
In 2013, Ari Emanuel joined the board of directors at Live Nation Entertainment, a sports and entertainment company. He has a stake in the company worth $480 million. He is also an active investor in the real estate industry. He owns a home in Beverly Hills that he purchased from Edward Slatkin for $27.5 million.
