On April 17th 2021, rapper Black Rob took his last breath in a hospital in Atlanta. The rapper, who died in his late twenties, had long-term kidney failure and suffered several strokes throughout the years.
He was born in New York and had a keen interest in music from a young age, listening to artists like Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick. He began rapping at the age of eleven and formed a group called Schizophrenics in his early twenties.
The rapper rose to fame in 2000 when he signed to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy Records and released the hit single “Whoa!” that topped the Billboard Hot 100 and reached platinum sales. He has also collaborated with some of rap’s most prominent artists, including Mase and DMX.
In 2004, he was convicted of larceny and served seven years in prison for failing to appear in court. He was released in May 2010.
His rap career soared after his departure from Bad Boy, when he launched Duck Down Records and dropped Game Tested, Streets Approved. He also appeared on reality television shows such as Come Back Kings.
Aside from his rapping, he has also written songs. He has collaborated with several prominent rap artists and released many albums.
